I got myself a summer fun car. Check it out. Its a 1977 Fiat Spider 124. Almost everything is in good working order, except the differential makes noise. I joined a Fiat owners club, and lucky me one of the major parts guys is here in Columbus. He has a rear end that Im prolly gonna get from him and put it in. Other then that it leaks a tiny bit of oil. I just cant wait to drive it around!
Engine gurus, its a 1.8l 90hp DOHC. Which takes anywhere from 10w-40 to 20w-50.
Heres a video of me driving it, you can hear the whining noise.

I don't know much about the whole fiat community...but would it be a sin to paint it black? I just don't like the burgandy color. Other than that, it looks fun.

I am definately going to be repainting the car. The paint is kinda funky in places anyways. Black was the color choice I had. Mmmmmm, black car with red leather.

Nice!
I like the non-English on the instruments :) Will you be doing a restoration? I noticed a bit of rust - still pretty nice for the age and miles. Good find.
I practiced driving stick in an MGB (learned to downshift into a corner), so I have a soft spot for all small, foreign convertibles :)

I plan on making it look nice as possible, not a complete restoration. It really is in great shape for its age. There is some rust on that wheel well. Guys son I bought it from backed into a trailer. I actually think I saw some rot there to, so I need to get some rust converter on there and patch it up.
I was actually looking at MGB's also Mark. Since I got the Fiat, my dads been looking at MGB's, MG Midgets, Triumphs, or other Fiats. Its a fun little car, and the stick is like a mile high.

Very cool man. I can't wait to get through with my wedding expenses, and get some money together for a house so I can then finally get a cool project vehicle. I support the black on red look!
its a fiat. gotta paint it red. :)
Man, its a great project car! have fun with it.

Good luck. You're gonna be waiting awhile. Pretty soon there will be a little dan running around.
So with historic plates you can only drive on the weekend?

Yeah, I just did the calculations last night, and its going to take exactly 2 years after our wedding to have it all paid off and to have as much money as I would like to have saved up before we buy the house.
My understanding of historic plates you can pretty much only drive your car to and from events where you are showing the car, or atleast that is their intended purpose. Not for everyday driving.

-get rid of front/rear bumper gaurds
-get some rims that fit the style of the car
-paint it red
then i would call it done. nice pick.

Well that sucks. I'd want to cruise around.
So what about all these guys with Chevelle SS's and historic plates. Those things just SIT there!!! The car gods do not approve the wasted horsepower.

It was definately nice for the past week driving the Fiat around. I definately got a lot of sun, and a lot of looks! So many people giving me the thumbs up! This weekend I get the driveshaft, pumpkin, and other rear end parts and hope to have it swapped out Sunday. Bad thing is, its gonna be cold and rainy (figures!! :banghead:) So I unfortunately have to drive it in the rain tomorrow morning to my dads so he can start the tear down.

Well we basically swapped out the whole drivetrain, except for the transmission, when doing so we saw a TON of floor rot. So we cut the cancer out, which is about 60% of the floor. 2 weeks into the project we have the passenger side about finished. Hopefully soon the floor will be completed so I can finally drive her.

All up and running! Fixed up the body so the paint doesnt look so dulle (someone rattle-canned the sides leaving nice clear coated paint underneath. I love buffers)
Finally *sigh* its done.
