Hey, just wanted to introduce myself to this site. I've been reading all these threads, well, a good portion of them all week. Lots of good info through all this reading. Was a little worried about some of the negatives i have been reading on the net in general about cougars. But, seen a lot more positives and figured, this car might be worth a shot. By the way, it will be a 2001 C2 that i'll be getting. 50k miles with all the options... looks good...lets just hope it stays good for a long time!

WELCOME! Show pix if you got any, what are your plans with the cougar in the future?

I have quiet a few pictures. Not sure on how to post them on here though... Directions?

And, if/when i get the money to do stuff to it, i think i wanna get at least a front/rear bumper change and at least the hood. CAI, WORKING SUNROOF! (If that's possible with these cars...) A stereo system. It already has dual mufflers under it. I'm always open to ideas from those of you that have already done some mods to your cars. I'd really like to have a 5 spd trans...but, not sure on how hard it would be to swap out the AUTO. At the same time though, i have an 89 jeep cherokee that i need to get put together better. Its been my daily driver, and frankly, i have to pray every time i get in it that it will get me where i'm going and back in one piece.

AND THANKS FOR THE WELCOME!!!!

Sounds like a good buy! Have fun with it.

Does it have leather seats?
If it does, a good first mod would be to give them to me.;)

HAHAHA... nice try there! I'll keep the leather seats for myself. Maybe after i wear them in better, i'll send em your way?

Heck yes, after a good week or two of wearing them in they'll be all wore out.
I can PM you my address!

THANKS! And yeah, got a reliable long lasting fix for them there GREAT sunroofs i've been hearing about?

MattyD879
03-27-2008, 11:46 PM
Yup, for the most part, the 01'-02' sunroofs with the metal tracks are more reliable.
I upgraded my 99' to the newer sunroof. However there still have been cases of the 01/02's breaking too. They are rather pricey so use with caution. But it is definetly nice to have. :)

Your car looks good and its already got some mild mods done to it:
Freedom Design front strut tower brace, Trubenz dual exhaust, painted tail light covers and Cougar head valve stems lol from what I can see.
And of course those leather seats...

dirtracer91
03-27-2008, 11:51 PM
Yeah, the guy i'm getting it from said that he had it fixed about a year back, and it just broke again not too long ago. But, i've come across some different...."fixes" on the net. And, the secretary at work is married to a guy that works at his pops body shop...soooooo, hopefully i can get a little assistance in a proper fix!

Don't be jealous of the STEMS!! You know you want those over the leather seats! hahahaha....

Looks nice. Too bad its ATX though. Well I shouldn't say too bad, just my personal preference. Get that bra off it!

03-28-2008, 12:13 AM
Ummm....i've heard bout the MTX ATX battle... Whats the difference, and am i looking at having a lot of issues?

DanoftheDead
03-28-2008, 12:47 AM
Well um its a difference of automatic or manuel.

dirtracer91
03-28-2008, 12:50 AM
Gotcha...i was thinkin it was somethin a lot different than that. I'd like to have had the Manual....but, you get what you get when ya can i suppose...

Welcome! The mtx is just faster, i haven't heard of the atx being a bad trasmition or anything tho. Glad you like the car, nice find! looks good too :) There has been guys that have done a atx/mtx swap I know aircougar has done a few. Check out the transmition section I think there is a thread about one being done.

03-28-2008, 09:27 AM
Thanks for the welcoming! I've always preferred the Man. to Auto trans...but, i guess i can't really ***** all that much. Eventually though, i'll get them swapped out. Thanks for the info, i'll check out the transmission threads and see what i can find! This is going to be a very long Friday and Saturday!!! :disgust:

Thanks again for the welcomes. This websites pretty awesome stuff... Just got an email, passed smog and good to go. I wouldn't think that would be a problem, but, had him do it anyways. Stupid CA smog... seriously hate it. Anyways, i should have the car by 10:30 Sunday mornin'.... Oh, and after taking it to get smogged and back home, the car has 50,005 miles. HAHAHA...i thought that part was funny. What kind of stereos sound good in these cars? I hear there's plenty of room in the trunk to throw in a couple big speakers.... any ideas for a not TOOOOOO expensive system for the time being?

DanoftheDead
03-29-2008, 12:28 AM
There is no easy answer for that question. Start researching.

wanderingmind
03-29-2008, 01:14 AM
That car looks beautiful! Dual exhaust and strut bar on there already

As far as the MTX vs. ATX thing goes...the reason people prefer the MTX is that it's quite a bit faster. As for reliability, the MTX is definitely more reliable. But, it's not just a "Cougar thing." Automatic transmissions are more complicated and more complicated almost always equates to more stuff that can possibly go wrong.

Yeah, i like the Manual trans too. I used to have one on my ol' nissan. NOT rice rocket either. Just what i could get back then. If it makes it any better, it was 4x4 lifted 6" with 32" tires on it. Anyways, tore my acl in my shiftin knee, been with auto ever since. Not sure how well the knee will do with shiftin all the time. I may just have to suck it up if i find a transmission to swap in eh?

haha good to hear you like the car :) You will be happy with it. As far as stereo goes, I just went through that  I think they are pretty good stereo cars. I have a 12 and it POUNDS. But like the other sead do some research. There is a "post your audio system" thread in the audio/electrical so you can see what others have done.

you can start by buying my head unit...
it would be a cornerstone for an awesome sound system.

its the one of the best sounding head unit you can buy.

Either today or tomorrow i'll take some new photos of my car and put them up on here. Or, well, isn't there a thread with everyone posting pictures up? I ran across it when i first started looking at cougars. ANyways, i'll try and find it again and post pics on there.

dirtracer91
03-31-2008, 12:30 PM
Yeah, this weekend was a lot of driving. I was up in Lodi/lockford area Saturday and down in LA to pick up my car Sunday. I'm sick of that 99 for a while!

LostRacer
03-31-2008, 12:33 PM
ugh. I bet. Enjoy the car. I'm in the bay area. But go down south every so often. Its hard to get meets together because of the huge split. Actually there is a member of in Lemoore. Bochuck iirc is his screen name.

dirtracer91
03-31-2008, 12:38 PM
Yeah, quite a bit of realestate between bay area and the south. I'll have to try and message that guy in Lemoore. I have some friends that live up in Sacramento, so i go there every so often...anyone from around there on here?
