One of the last things I havn't done yet since my swap.(going on three years now) I'm not sure what code ecu to get. When I went to the junk yard to get an mtx ecu he asked me what the code was, but I'm not sure how much this matters. I have a return-style engine, and I figured a code of nonR/S would cause issues.
So in short, can anyone give me an ecu code from a return-style mtx ecu?

maybe a tune would fix it? i know xcal makes some really good tunes. if you tune it you dont need a ecu. and did you do the swap yourself?

I do have a Xcal tune, but now it does this weird rev hanging thing when I shift(if the speedo is hooked up. Plus I have 6 codes perminatly thrown, which iirc causes the cougar to automatically run rich. I just want it to be done right.
and yes, I did it all by my lonesome, my bro did a little tool passing and gutted my front precat for me one day, but otherwise I worked on it alone.

how long the swap out take for you?

but anyway with your problem, find a cougar that is the same year, fuel type, and engine and that should be the ecu to use

There are a few 4-digit codes for Return Style MTX cougars... a few of them are:

TRW3
TRW4

you can also use:

SFG0
SFG1
which are SVT Contour ECUs...

I have a TRW3 or TRW4 ecu sitting in my basement, but I don't have a PATS key chip to go with it... if you still want the ECU, send me a PM. :)
You will just have to have your keys reprogrammed to the new ecu...

Thanks air coug, I will pm you.

and Kustom, it took me about 2 months. But really most of that was waiting for parts and money. I broke my atx which kinda threw me into doing the project. If you have all the nessasarry parts, I'm sure(pending any disaster, and there will be at least one) it will only take a few weekends of full day work. I think I spent close to 2000 total so far on the project(which included spec clutch, poly mounts, and precat gutting and replacement for broken/worn parts), I have a running total somewhere, but I don't know where it is. Key is, get a warrantied trans!!! I'm not even gonna go into that novel!!

I would jsut check the ECU wires, or any other wires for that fact that control the throttle control, mine was doing the same thing, kept revving for no reason, and turns out the wires on the ecu had a leaf stuck in it...... :(

It only happens when the speed sensor is hooked up. I think it's trying to shift gears, since it still thinks it's an atx.
