Hi all,

I'm new here and just got my new car. A nice black 2000 Cougar.

First, my old car. A 1990 Citroen XM:

And now, the new one:

I really enjoyed my first ride home with the car  and allready made a couple of plans for changes to the car. But as you know, it isn't that easy here in Germany because of the TÜV :crazy:

I hope to get nice support from all off you when I got technical questions. ;)

Greetings,
Vince

dont you have to get every modification done to your car inspected?
in which case, it would suck.
thats the tuv you are talking about, right?

and welcome to NECO. Im an American living in Croatia. I had my car shipped over here. If you are ever vacationing in Croatia, i live in Istrian region. :)

Yes. That's the TUV I'm talking about.
i.e.:
- selfmade angel eyes: No way!
- selfmade darkened rear lights: No way!
- Lowering springs: Has to be inspected and accepted by the TUV.
- Underfloor lights: No way!
- new rims: go to the TUV!
- body kit: meet again the TUV!
That really sucks!

Thanks. I heard about that croatia is a good and cheap region for vacation. So maybe we'll go there somewhen. If so, it would be nice to meet.
My wife is an american. So maybe, somewhen we'll escape from the TUV and enjoy the TUV free life

Actually its a good thing. How many times have you heard of guys in the States being pulled over and getting a ticket because their "mods" were illegal? (especially in Kali where even putting on an aftermarket intake could land you a ticket.)

Once you are TUV certified, you are good to go on any road. No tickets.:)

thats ture BUT getting every single detail inspected is also very irritating, plus the driver should know about what is accepted in his own state.. unless he doesnt have a valid drivers license then its understandable lol...

In my opinion, I wouldn't call it "ugly." It looks like a failed attempt at making a futuristic car  The wheels (rims, or lack-thereof) are awesome

Thanks to all for the nice welcome.

Yes, the Cirtoen XM looks futuristic. I wouldn't call it ugly. It has a timeless design and looks still modern after 18 years. But the best thing in that car is the "Hydractive" suspension system (Hydropneumatic suspension - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydropneumatic#Hydractive_1_and_Hydractive_2))
I never drove before such a good suspension. It is like hovering over the street. unless you put it into sport mode which makes it hard like a kart. Look at this video at youtube to see the advantage of the suspension in slalom test: YouTube - Tiff Needell 1990 cars slalom (http://youtube.com/watch?v=2DN9Rbs8V88)

Thanks to all for the nice welcomes.

Now, I got the last papers and everything is correct. My cougar has some 40/30mm lowering springs, which were allready in there, but I didn't get the TÜV inspection certificate with my car. So I didn't know if everything is correct and I couldn't drive the car for almost one week, because in a case of an accident you can loose your insurance for driving a car which has such kind of modifications which are not checked by TÜV. I got the documents on saturday morning and everything is fine now.

Than I had my first longer ride to visit my family. So time to check out what is possible with the car on the german 'Autobahn'. I'm very impressed now, because even with having the small 2.0l zetec, the car is good for 215km/h (~134mph). I really love it :biggrin:

Greetings
Vince
