I'm looking at getting an underdrive pulley(s) for the car & there's so many different choices. I was wondering what's the difference between the brands out there?
I know of :
CFM, Massive Speed Systems, AEM, Focus Sport, Steeda, & ZX Tuner
Is one lighter than the others? I know some have 2 pulleys in their kit for the crank & water pump & some only the crank.
Is there any difference in hp gain?
I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck on one. I'm hoping you guys & gals can help me out.

the most bang for the buck is going to be the $20-$30 one off ebay for the focus. i have had one on my car for well over a year now with zero issues. its drastically lighter than stock and is the same size diameter as the others. get one without a belt as the focus uses a different length belt than us.
mine looks almost identical to the C-F-M one just without the C-F-M markins on it.

Can you tell me if there's a difference between the 1 pulley & 2 pulley systems? Are the 2 pulley ones the same as stock but lighter or are they bigger & lighter?

The 2 pulley systems generally contain a smaller underdrive pulley for the crank like the 1 pulley systems, however they also come with either an alternator or power steering overdrive pulley. the idea is to keep your alternator moving at the same RPMs it was before the UDP was added. this is supposed to help keep the output in the proper range.
IMO you dont need the alternator ODP unless you have a huge system in the trunk that pulls a lot of power. this is because if the voltage regulator sees that the output is low it will simply increase it to the proper voltage. alternators are capable of putting out well more than the 14-15V that they do.

i have an Unorthodox Racing pully...
works fine...cant say i noticed any drastic difference though..fuel consumption seems better...
however everytime the temp drops below -10 my battery light flickers like crazy...
and has done this since adding the crank pulley...wheni nthe diagnostic mode i can see the voltage fluctuate between 14-15 and 10V...light flickers at 10....during spring summer and fall it is fine...come winter it flickers...i havent noticed any adverse effects yet...3 years and counting..
you should be able to find pulleys for all the accessories on our car...i have yet to see Overdrive pullies though...as i desperately wanted one for my alt...they all seem to be under drive though...the slower the accessories are spinning the less friction they create and less HP you lose through parasitic losses...
also should mention...your car wont "gain" any horse power...it will only recover a little bit that is lost through as ai said parasitic draining from the accessory pullies..
an overdrive pully would have an opposite effect to that of underdrive pullies..

The only overdrive pulley I've seen is the alt, from zx tuner. The underdrive pulleys are varying designs/weights & 2 different sizes (80 & 100) for the crank, also the 2 pulley ones I've seen come with crank & water pump pulleys.
Other than that I haven't seen any other pulleys, which I kinda wish I could so I could get all red pulleys.

I agree these are the only pulleys that i've seen as well. Ive seen the crank and water pump pulleys which come together and are black. The alt overdrive pulley from zxtuner is blue. I too am looking for red pulleys so let me know if you find anything else.

to be honest i dont know if all the pullies are available specific to the 2.0 cougar...but i am sure other applications would work...
i dont think i would get the 80mm version as that would be almost 40% smaller then stock...i could see you having trouble with the car then...
ie battery problems would be inherent, steering would likely be tough and sluggish, AC might not cool, car may overheat...as all the components driven off the pullies would spin approximately 40% slower...they were designed to spin at a certain rate to keep the car operational...i am sure there is a fairly large margin of error and compromise built into their calculations..but,,,you never know...
