Last week a buddy of mine wanted to run me with his 99 GTI, i said why not even tho i knew who would win (him). So we met at my buddys tire shop and went from there. His car is a 99 GTI with a euro spec VR6 engine, 5-6spd and a srt-8exhaust thats it and it's non turbo. My car is a 99 cougar with trubendz exhaust and AEM intake and im auto.

Your an extremely FortunateOne that there was no cops around:facepalm:. If the Cougar was an MTX you'd probably won. Not smart to be doing that though... This thread does have flamability to it doesn't it?

i dont even have to watch the video. I know my 3L is less than half a second slower than an awd turbo'd vw r32 on the autox track, where racing should take place :poke:

I know it should be done at a race track but a lil street racing doesn't hurt. I don't mind what people have to say it's not going to hurt me so flame away.

tell my father and deceased step mother:mad:. my dad was driving and my stepmother was in passenger seat of this once 2006 malibu. http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc269/cedwards0823/wreck014.jpg

when they were hit by this once 2007 Cobalt SS doing about 137 mph......streetracing. http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc269/cedwards0823/wreck017.jpg

keep it on the f*ing track man.

ya man, know your role, thats a no no (insert wagging finger here) but really why have a road tales section that says, if you have a kill story post it here, and then they do and get flammed?

Sorry for your loss but im not stupid enough to go 137 on any street. if there were cars in front i would not have done it, the road was pretty empty and we only got to 60-70mph speed limit is 40. I know when and when not to race. Again sorry for your loss.

If people really don't like seeing or reading about street racing then don't come in, it's that simple.

But pick a differnt road when your gonna do it.. lol, there was like atleast 3-4 cars just by me browsing that video. " granted anything could go wrong with ur suspension sending you into the other lane.

Not a flame,.. but advice ?

tho, was a pretty close race for an atx... i almost dont beleave it was a vr6... vr6 = 15's flat

The problem with street racing today is there are no back roads to do it on anymore.

Used to be, when you street raced, you'd find an abandoned road somewhere, in the middle of the night, and line it up. That way, if you did find yourself someplace you dont wanna be, no body but they person you're racing can be in the way.

I'd say it's more of an issue of people not wanting to take the time to find and drive to a deserted back road. They'd rather take stupid risks.

You're right, a lil street racing doesn't hurt. It's known to kill.

i'm not one to be talking, everyone on here knows i race here and there, well more so then, as oppose to now. Anyways pick a better road to do it on, or take it to the track, thats the best. I can't wait for the track to open now that I live in a town with one :)

But just like anything know your limits.

Street racing is bad and/or speeding... It's a stupid decision. Dumbest thing you could ever do...

On the other hand... None of you can say you have never tried it... That's what makes me laugh.

It pisses me off that they put 120 on the speedometer, yet you aren't allowed to use it. Lmfao... I'm joking.

Thats bs that there is no backroads. Even here in NJ(the most densely populated state in the country) there are dozens of backroads that barely see traffic.

PS youre right street racing doesn't "hurt".... it kills!!! As someone has already mentioned and experienced first hand. You may have a death wish but no one on here or people on the roads you're doing this on does, so dont do it!

I concur. But then, I live in a fairly rural area of Kansas, so I guess I'm spoiled on having backroads. :)

Dumb statement lol.

But I thought a GTI was turbo? Isn't a N/A GTI just a golf? Then again I don't know my VW's too well.

I will say this

I have no problem with street racing done on back roads. In Burlington County (NJ), backroads are everywhere, and even my road is empty and has a nice hill to begin the drag. The road you're on is a tad busy, and it's plain daylight out.

However, to all the keep it on the track naysayers - here's the problem, it's not worth it. Do you know how much I'll be laughed at taking a 00' stock cougar to the track and lining it up? With my buddies it's just plain fun dicking around. No times, no officials, just fun! But again, use your head and keep it to where no one else will be.

Yea, and I'm sorry for your loss Cougar00. :(

yeah ure kinda right, but, here in NJ most of the roads still have houses, even tho there are barely any cars on them, so theyre not like completely abandoned.. imagine a kid was playing by his house and the ball got on the "abandoned" street while someone used it for street racing? :(

Then don't race. It's why I don't. Last thing I need to haunt me forever is knowing I took someone's life. Especially a kid.

"Street racing" is a bad idea, yes. "playing" is another issue. anything over 60 in the city is stupid, and I have a Honduh kill posted in here from the other night, I don't make a habit of it. Highway runs outside of town, as in WAY out in BFE is okay in my mind... No intersections, just straight open road... BTW, a "GTI" can't be non turbo, that makes it a golf... FYI:biggrin:

Would you rather be laughed at or carried out in a body bag? Seriously, you're talking about something where people are killed every day, and you're worried about being laughed at?

"street" + "racing" = "really f***ing retarded".

I live just off of a busy street, and I see a lot of those punks flying by - side by side - every weekend. If one of them ever crashes through my living room, and I live, I guarantee you, they won't.

All I know is that here in North Dakota, there are MANY long miles of isolated highway - the only houses to be seen have been abandoned - so, there's no excuse for that crap in town.
