What cams are being used for turbo setups? Does it pay to upgrade to the svt cam or others like cat?

I'm pretty sure no one here is using the catcams, except maybe spridget. Use the SVT.

SVT would not be my choice due to greater overlap, except maybe on an engine seeing much higher than normal crank speeds and 3L cams arn't to conducive to high speeds. SE cams/non-SVT 2.5L cams may be the better option.

I'll have to disagree with you, SpookSVT. When I had the 3L cams in my turbo, the power curve was monsterous below 5k, but then died a horrible death very quickly (more evidence of the 3L-cams-are-for-midrange-power argument).

When I swapped out to the SVT cams, the car seemed strong through the midrange, but when the turbo was finally spooled up, the power just kept coming all the way to redline. I too thought the overlap would be bad for boost, but it's such a tame overlap I didn't notice it. This was at ~12psi with a T3/4 60 trim, .82A/R.

I can back Dan's arguement 100% ... SVT cams + ~11 psi with a Precision SC-61 turbo will pull all day long making max power at 6750 rpm. See signature for dyno numbers.

The SVT cams are a must for turbo cars the last thing you want is the midrnage power to be more than the topend. Our cars really like to pull hard to 7500 rpms allowing the car to stay in gear longer and keep traction better. The torque curve feels flatter with the SVT cams since the turbo is just building a few pounds down low to give the car a stout feeling down low. I know you are a smart guy spook but sometimes all that info does not work for all cars if you rode in my car or anyone elses you would be so imppressed on the power delivery the setup has with the SVT cams w/FI. NOw if we put this same setup on a RWD I may agree with you completely but so far on this matter I would not steer anyone wrong on what is better. Joey

I said in my OP that 3L cams are not too conducive to high speed efficiency and thus would not use them. I personally would utilize the SE cams as they offer the best all around power. Of course I wouldn't be using such an animal in a FWD car! As I've also previously stated in my OP, I would not use SVT cams except in a high speed engine (~7000RPM+) where the higher overlap is beneficial.
