The forum problems have arisen due to 200 moderators of the forum's logging in at the same time and the spectrum just disintergrated into little bits.

Twisted vision are repairing the spectrum as we speak

Is there not a Computer Forum they can subscribe to, just to obtain a wealth of knowledge on computers, where the people posting such knowledge receive no financial benefit and all the subscriptions go towards the upkeep of the forum that doesn't work properly!!! :evil:

Never got the welcome pack and sticker though i didnt want it as who in there right mind want's to advertise those tosser's

There was a general neglect of the club and forum at the same time as charging people to join it. They have been asked on numerous occasions how exactly was the money spent . To date there still is no answer. We set up an alternative for just £7.99 no lie . UK Cougar owners deserve a better club and more honestythan that. The problems they are experiencing is probably down to neglect and indifference it should be noted that all bar 2 of the admin for .com don't even own a cat anymore. Somebody's got a wad of cash somewhere I wonder if one of the admin is honest enough to tell us where it is and how much they've got. You should all know that when these questions were asked they deleted the threads and pushed it under the carpet hoping that we'd all forget about it. So come on .com admin where is it ? how much is there? what did you spend it on £'s please and if you get .com back up and running when are you going to publish the accounts for the club which you are bound to do by Law?
But the very least is that you should be able to tell your members even if you don't want to tell the tax man.

What a waste of £13!! I won't be renewing just so some idiot can go and have a few extra beers every weekend at my expense!

I know for a fact that setting up a forum is easy and costs nothing! The domain name is only about £12 a year and the hosting is dirt cheap because there is no bandwidth required for a site hosting a Forum! Public Liablility is about £60 a year, checked that out! so where does the rest of the money go?

Cougarfest discounts?, hardly! - what about the people who don't go?
Banners? Yeah, you have like 3 of them max? and they cost about £50 each tops!

at least 300 subscribers thats £3900 a year!
- £100 per year (and thats pushing it) for the website
- £200 on Banners
- £1000 on Cougarfest discount (that being genrous, im sure not that much is spent on CF)
- £300 for total number of welcome packs

That leaves £2300 on the first year in someones pocket, then consecutive years will be even more because welcome packs have already been sent and banners already exist, until new ones are needed!

So if i'm being really conservative I could say there is at least £2000 a year, which I can't account for!
And unless a breakdown is given by UKCougar.com, then we can assume it funds the admins private army!

No disrespect Alan but you didn't seem that concerned about image on .com
maybe if we had more members asking questions about how the forum was being run and how it's resources were being used there would not have been a reason for .net to exist. The admin of .com have sunk to the depths of justifying their actions with lies and preventing the subjects of those lies to have their say. Some of us are willing to confront it and some are'nt .

You mention sour grapes to the contrary, what we have done with that whole experience is to learn from it and create something better. What we are doing is developing a site run for the benfit of it's users making ourselves accountable to its users and including the ideas of it's users. Read our policies and guidelines and you'll see our committment to that.

The only football (or soccer as these guys call it) I like to watch is pub football or football with your mates where if you fall over or get injured you get jeered and get told to get the **** up! I am more than happy to pay my £13 subscriptions, as being a member has more than made that money up for me. Being a member has saved me over £500 for all the modifications I wanted to do to my car, be it getting second hand pieces from other members, or getting discounts from whole salers.

You can slate other members of the forum as much as you want - but have you ever met these people?

I am proud to say I have met a great deal of people on the cougar forum, and can honestly say there are some really great people. One of which is Phil.

I have spent a lot of time with Phil on meets, he and his wife have always been very welcoming to new members and old, regardless of age.

Yes, it is sad that the ukcougar.com forum has had a major shake up, and seen some members leave. I hate to see any of our fold fall out. As said earlier, we all joined as we all love our cars, and enjoy developing them further. The problem arose when people started to get very personal about it.

I'm sorry to say I do not really agree with getting girlfriends/boyfriends to join who do not own the car but want to join for kicks. By all means, we should all invite and welcome them at meets - I have met lots of members' partners and know several by name now, they are lovely people. I just think that getting non-owners who have no real interest in the car to join is asking for trouble, things get personal and off topic.

Most importantly, I can't wait for the forum to restart so I can discuss any matters I have about my car once again.

Its not about going running because X insulted Y, and Y can't take the joke/banter/insult.

Banter is good, in doses. Persistent banter just gets plain annoying. Half the problem ukcougar.com experienced was people barraging the site with banter/spam. Okay, most of it was without insults, but it made reading through the threads unbearable.

I remember once I wanted some advice on an air filter, I had to read through 3 pages of football banter, what someone was getting for tea and some other random rubbish before I got an answer. People leave because they get frustrated. I have seen several members leave who I wish were on the Forum - AussieCat and Cougar-age are two long standing members who put so much into the club, but eventually left as the forum changed into a chat room.

It makes it even harder to read when people do not use full stops or commas!

My point is this;

This is a car forum.

If you want advice, ask it. If you have advice, give it.

If you want to know people's opinions on your car, post a poll. But take the rough with the smooth, remember everyone has individual tastes.

And finally, if you want to talk about football and meal solutions, do so in off topic.

But never throw personal insults, unless you know the recipient in person and they know it is in good humour. Persistent banter, jokes and spam will kill any forum, thats why the rules are there.

Takes a decent and honest person to be able to say that ,you will have gained a lot of respect with that one post, Its a good example to all. I'm hoping that this will put an end to the feud unleashed on this site. With regards to Ricks comment about why I or any other member of admin didn't attend Daves funeral, we unfortunatly couldn't make it. There was a very large number of other members that also wanted to attend but couldn't. Not all of us have jobs / lives that allow us to take a day off and drive for hours. Family commitments, small children etc
I myself was going to attend right upto less than 24hrs beforehand when A large problem at work meant I had to pull out. Maz will tell you how gutted I was. On a personal level, that was a pretty low blow to try and score a point against me Rick :disgust:

With regards to all the questions about club funds, i shall be posting up shortly here a reply to them. I am sure when i do you will not believe me and blah blah blah but hey, what more can I do? What I can tell you now is that the figures Bullet Foss came up with for the number of fully paying subscribers to UKCougar.com are so far from the truth, you would need a Sat Nav to get back to them :rofl: 300 members paying £13 a year?? yeah right ! I wish!!! Where on earth did you get those figures from mate?? :confused:
There is a huge difference in the numbers of people that "sign up" to the club and those that "Subscribe" to the club. I do wish people would check their facts :facepalm:
Also, your comment Rick about having to show clubs finances "As required by law" is totally incorrect also. If we had paying "Members" you would indeed be correct. However, we have paying "Subscribers". They are two totaly differant things in law. ;)

Now, moving on to another of the other comments that have been made. How can we at UKCougar.com be accused of always jumping to conclusions when in the last instance, the saga was ongoing for well over 6 months, copies of the PM's were viewed by a number of people and then a vote was taken to decide the outcome? How is that jumping to conclusions :crazy:

You also state monies are being pilfered. Can you back this up with some evidence please or have you "jumped to this conclusion" (sorry, couldn't help myself :rofl: ) becaue of your incredibly inaccurate figures you have come up with?

Now the reason the site is down is because it was hacked. Nobody had forgotten to pay any bills or put 50p in the meter. It is purely down to an act of sabotage. The company we pay to look after our site have confirmed this and also advised that whomever it was did a good job, hence the delay in repairing the problem. So to whomever it was, well done. You must be very proud of yourself/s :disgust:

Paul, I judge peolple by deeds and and not words. My comments about Dave's funeral was just another example of your words not deeds. The fact is none of you made it none of you. Definately talk the talk never walk the walk what you posted were just more excuses. You speak of him as a dear friend yet you and all of your colleagues did not find it to attend his funeral so. Your toast to him were just empty words. He was a man that went the extra mile for people, shame none of you could find it in yourselves to do the same for him.

As far as the club funds are concerned the fact is you fail again to tell the membership what was spent on what. The fact is you should be able to at any time be able to say what the club budget is and not fob people off with "Were working on it " or "We're just getting some numbers together" As eloquent as your post was you have dodged the issue like you have on every other occasion the question has been asked. What people and not just me want to see is a pound by pound breakdown of where all that money went. just post an exel spreadsheet, you'r credability on this issue will be transformed overnight.

You must be realising now that your going to find it very difficult to justify the £13 you levy from the members of .com without justifying it in the future
even some of.com's loyalest members are asking the same questions. If I were in your shoes id be coming up with the answers real soon as no doubt you realise members can have all the same information you charge them for free right here on NECO.

Well your theory is that .com has been hacked is interesting again offering no proof. Another easy allegation to make but it's just as likely the sites problems have been caused through years of neglect. Before the site went down there were areas that hadn't been updated for 2 years or more. The easiest thing in the world is to blame others or outside influences for your own failings. The admin of .com became complacent in its attitude towards the site and it's members an easy thing to do if you believe they don't have a choice with what club they want to belong to.

If .com comes back online I hope you and your admin colleagues learn an important lesson from this situation as in if you take peoples money you have to give them something back in return and the fact that you should have a customer mentality towards your members . It's not about what they can do for you it's about what you should be doing for them which should include being open about how you spend your members money.

With regard to Dave's funeral, I think this is stooping pretty low to be using this as a measure of .com's hierarchy's commitment. Please have some respect. However, in addition to Paul's comments about this, there was representation. Maz, Kully, Lewy and Mike are all mods and they attended. Neil (admin) was also due to attend but due to a meeting at work overrunning he was unable to - I remember the exchange of phone calls and texts at the pub as Neil was trying to find a train that would get him there for the wake but to no avail.

I think the argument on club funds should be halted until, as Paul has promised, these details are published. I would suggest they be posted on the .com forum in a non-subscriber area. NECO is not really the right place for that info.

NECO does charge members for stopping the 'ad' posts. Otherwise I presume they receive funds from the advertising - I'm only guessing on that. At the end of the day, NECO is not hosted for free and they raise funds in order to cover their overheads.
Does the .net forum's overheads cost zero pounds? No I didn't think so. I assume someone is providing the hosting etc out of the goodness of their hearts (as .com started actually). That's all well and good but what happens when the person providing .net's facilities loses interest in the Cougar or the club?

Now onto the subject of .com being sabotaged. Why Rick, are you so quick to dispute this as being a malicious action? Why are you not accepting Paul's comments (based on advice from the hosting company) at face value?
Is the timing of this incident more than coincidence with recent events? I would be very disgusted if the saboteur was someone amongst us, someone I may have chatted with, helped or helped me, met at a Cougar meeting or considered a friend.

With all due respect flamenco, I would'nt have expected a post any different than what you've posted afterall when the Admin or Paul preach in your case they are preaching to the converted hardly an objective opinion. You've been around on .com from it's inception and at no time that I know of have you ever questioned admins actions even when it was necessary. So forgive me if I don't recieve your post as a down payment of credability on the part of .com.

As far as justifying a charge to sign up to .com I'm entitled to say what I have because we have set up a site so we know, seeing as you havn't that speaks for itself. How can you defend them by saying just wait they'll have the numbers soon? when it was something they were always meant to have done in the first place years ago. The overheads apart from .net's teams personal time is exactly £12.99 Fact sir. So whatever they are telling you needs to be pretty good to justify what they are levying on .coms members annually.
I think your post on this subject is borne from loyalty to them as opposed to objectivity.

Now as for Daves Funeral I do not apreciate your sentiments on this I agree you should not speak ill of the dead and I havn't you might want to make excuses for them that's your choice but as a symbol of solidarity to a much liked and apreciated member Admins response was woeful at best. It should not have been just a gesture for the club it should have been a personal one too. If I remember rightly Mr Every said at the time that he couldn't justify the petrol to go to the funeral so what do you think folks? This exchange won't change events but I think it's a bit after the fact to post publicly having a toast to somebody that you didn't go the extra mile to pay your last respects to. I'd say it was a pretty good example of not being there for your friends when it really counts. Shaggs should have kept it to himself rather than post publicly to give the impression he really cared at all.

Lastly the inference of sabotage is merely a veiled accusation. Beleive it if you want to. You also inferr motive, yes there are a few current and ex members who hypothetically might have one. But the truth is motive is nothing to do with anything. The timing is co-incidental and coupled with the other factors like neglect are just as valid. If .com ever resurrects itself its an ideal opportunity for it to be better than it was before though some of you have low expectations of the people that run it the majority deserve more than what they were being given for their money. So we'll all have to wait and see wont we.

For what it's worth Manos if they had a few more like you in Admin it could well be a better place than what it was at least you have a cat and would take a genuine interest in developing the club unlike its current leadership that seem more interested in having a bit of authority over people and taking their money without any accountability.

The cost of petrol was NEVER an issue, it was my work and family commitments that prevented me from attending. Why do you find this so hard to believe? Unlike yourself, my partner doesn't own a cougar and have no children and thus can go galivanting around the countryside till whatever time she sees fit !

You say we never offer any proof for our actions, yet you also say PM's are private and shouldn't be used as the basis for warnings etc. I am more than happy to show all and sundry (on ukcougar.com) the mass of PM's you sent to members on UKCougar.com Would that be proof enough of that particular instance?

I have no access to the clubs bank account and as such, I need to speak to Jason to get these figures. I also need to speak to Neil to get the breakdown of how much Cougarfest cost (Marquee hire, fridge hire, field hire etc). I also need to speak to Matt with regards to finding out the total number of fully paid up subscribers as I no longer look after this ! Therefore, I cannot just click my fingers and present the information just like that.
I have said i will produce the figures and I will as soon as I am able. Remember this is a weekend and a lot of people have personal lives. I myself am only hopping on here amongst looking after 4 children because I know there will be another post from you accusing me of even more things.
Besides, when the figures are produced, we all know you will not believe them and ask us for "proof" etc etc. You will never be happy with whatever we give / explain /justify Rick.

Edit: Thinking about it I have decided I will post up the findings when I have them and no more. I refuse to keep allowing myself to be dragged into arguments with Rick. It is clear that no matter what I say or what I do, he will always come back and accuse me of lying, making sly digs at him etc, so there realy is no point in me wasting my time.

Reference your site being hacked left's be fair It's not the first time it's been off line ..There's an old thread on here (2004) if you search far enough back where your site was down and a member of your forum's back then is putting it down to bad admin management.

It went down due to lack of bandwidth. We paid for more and it returned. We had a large number of new subscribers that pushed us over our agreed bandwidth limit. Simple as that.

It also went offline for a week not that far back IIRC wasnt it 2006.

2006 is quite some time ago mate. How many times has NECO been down in the last 6 years?? Quite a few times.

So judging by past event's it is fair for people to assume that the hacking theory is just more spin.

What evidence would you like me to produce for you all to see?

Re: Bulletfoss being wide of the mark with actual paying member's .Rather than ridiculing him post the number of actual paying member's ,cant be hard for you to do. Then people can do the sum's for there self's.

Iv read about the first 6 pages of this and just got depressed and frustrated. There is so many people who should just shut up and stop being so immature.
