View Full Version : Spark Plugs/wires
Hey guys this may be a stupid question but I purchased oem motorcraft plugs and i want to know if they come already gapped to spec or do I need to buy the tool for this? Also do you guys rub anti sieze on the plugs and dielectric compound of the contacts of the plugs/wires???
thanks

The should come pre-gapped but I wouldn't trust them, buy the tool its like $2 or something just to be sure. I wouldn't put anti-sieze on them because you will want to replace them eventually. Just some dieletric gunk where the plugs plug into the wires. I bought mine at Ford and they put some on for me :) nice guys, saved me like $8 for the tube that would last me a lifetime.
I will definately go buy a plug gapper in the morning. thank you!!!
I have another question. Do you recommend using a torque wrench to tighten the plugs?

technically you should, however if you just go until it stops turning youll be fine. also, always thread the plugs by hand several threads, until you cant turn it by hand anymore (you will have to use the spark plug socket and an extension obviously). this keeps it from cross threading in the head.
Anti-sieze on the threads is a good idea but not really necessary. the dielectric compound is highly recommended.

I would get a torque wrench just to be on the safe side. You can pick one up on ebay for pertty cheap. It's hard to know how xxft/lbs of pressure is like.
