Messing with a Cobalt

one monday after work I figured it was a nice day and hopped in my car to go for a ride, I find a red cobalt ls with some kid in it, looked stocked and I wasnt planning on really messin with him (it was red and red just kinda gets my attention). leaving a red light in traffic i give a little intake whistle and start cruisin next thing I kno that damn cobalt is all over the place behind me and in the lane next to me trying to race. Finally traffic clears in the other lane and I grab 1st and start clippin off gears a 6k, bye bye cobalt (must of been an automatic) at the next light in traffic I see the cobalt a few cars back then red and blue lights :facepalm: ofcourse traffic clears from behind me like something off of bruce almighty. I pull over at the next side road and was glad to see when the cop got out and flagged down the cobalt and pulled him over behind me. As the cop walks up and starts talkin to the other kid I am glad to see that I recognize him because I used to be a mechanic at his township.
To try to shorten the story up the cop gave me a break with a careless driving, because he knew me and I wasnt "blowing smoke up his ass" but the other dude got a wreckless driving and the cop told me he pulled the same kid over 12 hours before and gave him a DUI (ha, dumbass) So now there is some kid with a nice red cobalt that he cant drive absolutely hatin right now.

And the kicker, the last thing the cop said to me before I drove off: "Next time leave him go, I know this thing woulda smoked that piece of crap anyway" ha!

What is it with people and cobalts? I mean, I'm primarily a chevy guy (dont hate on me, ever ford I've ever been around has had major mechanical problems, including our kitten) but still, those damned things are pieces.

Ahhh come on guys I only shared the story because the cop gave me a break, dont tell me you dont mess around at all, the cop just caught me this time, its my first ticket in the car. I got 3 pts out of the whole deal, I learned my lesson, leave it on the backroads :evil:

I have a slightly modded duratec mtx and I give SS's a good run. so a cobalt ls I wouldn't even try to race. I did give a ion redline a run thinking it might be at least the same race as the SS. boy I wish it was. he was even slower although it is neat to hear the SC whine.... behind you.

The only way you can keep up with those 2 cars are if the 2 other drivers SUCKED!

Both cars are identicle. Both have 205 HP. The cobalt weights 2991 lbs and the Ion 2945 lbs.

No doubt that the 2L SC motor in the SS/SC is much quicker than the Cougar's 2.5. The 2.2L in the base Cobalts sound really bad, my neighbor has one. Not the good bad either, like sucky bad.

Cobalt runs mid 14's and the best recorded time on a 2.5L was GMK ant that was a 14.8 if i'm not mistaking. But thats ok because every cougar owner must be a bad driver, or maybe you will finally realize that you were driving on an 1/8 mile track, and thats why your so fast. :rolleyes:

So I slapped it back into 1st gear (I was doing 75) just so I can rev it up and get that speed up, and we're neck and neck... and wouldn't you know it - my car starts shaking like crazy, I'm like Double U Tee Eff? And I look down... course I forgot I was driving a MTX and didn't shift into 7th. My car has a 7th Gear. It's actually 3x Overdrive. But this time Overdrive = Horsepowerz and NOS (TM) BOOST

A V6 COUGAR IS NOT AS FAST AS A SS/SC COBALT.:facepalm: PERIOD. IT'S JUST THE COLD HARD FACTS. THEY RUN 0-60 IN LIKE 6 SECONDS. COUGARS TAKE ABOUT 7.5 WITH A GOOD DRIVER. AND THE SI RUNS TO 60 IN THE UPPER 6 LOW 7'S DEPENDING ON THE DRIVER. I SEEN ONE RUN 6.7. THEY'RE ALSO QUICKER THAN A COUGAR. Depending on how you have "slightly" modded your Cougar, you may be as fast as a Si but I doubt it. You'd probably need I/H/E to run with a Si.

My cougar is an auto v-6 and it goes 0-60 in 3 seconds.. cause I accelerate and go one mississippi, 2 mississippi, 3 mississippi and Im at 60 MPH so yeah Mine can do in 3 mississippi's
