i would imagine you would. That 2.2l isnt very powerfull, ivee driven one. Now if it was a Cobalt SS/sc thats a whole nother story.

I don't think they're that much lighter- 2800 at the lightest. I'd say the coug.

I've driven both kinds, more of the 2.2 though. I used to chauffuer them at GM. I say it's a drivers race.

Cobalt LT - 145 hp and 155 ft/lb. Curb weight 2,742. 2005 Cobalt LS sedan (auto) 0-60 8.4 seconds 1/4 mile 16.6 @ 84 mph. The sedan has a curb weight of 2,900 lbs. (http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/car_shopping/budget_rides/chevrolet_cobalt_ls_road_test+page-4.html) So, if you subtract the weight of the LT, you get a little over 150 lbs. 100 lbs is about equal to 1/10th of a second in the 1/4 mile. So, the LT would probably do the 1/4 in ~16.4 give or take. 0-60 in maybe 8.2 give or take.
My buddy has a Cobalt LT 5 speed. There's absolutely NO way he could beat me and he's got the 5 speed. Seeing as how your friend has an auto and you have a 5 speed...you've got him unless you absolutely have no clue how to drive.

Just race him.
Arent Cavaliers pertty well the same? 2.2L ecotech? I think you have him paper race 16.6 Cobalt vs 16 Cougar. easy math. and you both have the same mods.

I've raced both ion redline and SS mind you they were stock and I have basic bolt on. I crushed the ion and beat the SS with about a car length. that is a drivers race tho. you MUST know the perfect launch and shifts points to win. and this cobalt was stock I was racing.

A stock V6 cougar has 22 horse on the I-4 Cobalt LS(170v148) and 14 more foot pounds of torque. That is enough to give your cougar the edge unless it is has an automatic transmission. Stock, a Cobalt SS Supercharged has 35hp to your cougar same as the Ion Redline. You are going to need more than an intake and to beat that so I am calling bull**** on your claim.
Just race him.

No, Cavaliers were/are J-Body cars while cobalts are Delta. They both have the ecotec engine but the ones used in the cobalts have slightly more power.

Idk about lamp shade...but i raced a cobalt ss in my 01 cougar 5 spd. and beat him 3 consecutive times. All three races were close, i think the most i beat him by was a half a car. He was stock and i just have an intake and exhaust. So it is possible...like he said, you just have to have a perfect launch and shift at the right times.

Man there has been allot of cobalt talk around here lately. I have driven some of my friends cobalt SS's and they are decently powered cars. From what I have seen the SS is definitely a faster car and should beat a stock cougar with little problem. That is assuming both drivers know how to drive their car. As for the other option cobalts, I wouldn't expect a serious challenge to the cougar. Its reason like this though that I have contemplated a 3L swap.

I agree.
Unless he guy in the SS/SC really didnt know how to drive (or it was a plain SS) or didnt know you were racing him, I call serious BS on beating a SC with just basic bolt ons. Those cars can do mid-14's stock, and I've seen better than that at the track from more than one.

hold up, you crushed an ion redline? :bs: I'd be more than happy to meet up with you and watch you try this with me. where are you located? I've personally owned two cougars, one was modded quite a bit more than the other and even that one wouldn't have been able to stand a chance against my redline. When I made the upgrade from those cougars into my redline, it was like night and day difference.
Add some boost then you will always win:biggrin:
hehe, how does your car do against your wife's? i think i remember you guys telling me she had an 04', did you get it reflashed w/the newer tune? now I'm sure yours is a cougar that could probably legitimately take the redline or ss s/c, or it should at least be very close. however, these bolt on boys must be dreaming, either that or the ss s/c and redline boys werent really trying. i'm sure you can attest to that.

Could have been some joker in a stock cobalt with ss badging lol. Or a horrible driver. I would love to race one and see how I would do, but with a stock ss running a 14.4 (Motor Trend) I have little hope, even with my long list of bolt on's. 3L it would be a different story but 2.5, no way.

That was my whole point. The fastest N/A 2.5 Cougar I've ever known was Kenny's, that ran a 14.7. That's slow for a stock SS/SC Cobalt.
I don't know what kind of craaaaaaaaaazy bolt-ons mister Lamp has, but it must have 1.21 Gigawatts to run a low 14.

14.4 for the Colbat SS thats very impressive .. they can almost keep up with srt-4's ...

Depends on the build, stealthy was telling me pertty much mid-13's to mid 14's.
