to anyone who has one, does it have its own power supply {battery}, needs the cig lighter, or does it run off of the car's power when connected? I was thinking about getting one but my cig lighter is screwed thats why i need to know, it doesn't say on the site.

one more question how difficult are these to use? don't want to waste 400 bucks on something that'll fry my brain.

Step 1) download tune from tuner
Step 2) Using SCT software installed on your computer, load tune from computer to device via USB cable
Step 3) Pull fuel pump relay and fuse
Step 4) Plug device into car and upload tune

The device gives on-screen instructions on what to do and what not to do ... it's very easy and if you have any questions, you can always ask them here ;)

I've never done it either but it's needed because if your battery is low and the download takes too long your fuel pump will kill your battery in the middle of the tune download possibly causing some major issues.

Battery charger? That is what I had to use on the big Turbo Diesel we tuned at work.

Prob with battery charger is they can send spikes that can fry computer also. Jumper packs r recommended to use.
There is one type of battery charger but I highly doubt anyone has it since its like hlle expensive. This out straight from GM training.

If you dont want to remove the fuse just hook up a jumper pack to battery.

if you want to unlock your ecu and be able to tune the ecu on ur own, you will need to contact either brenspeed or NPG and get the PRP (pro racer package) also. its additional to the purchase of the xcal. the xcal is just the scanner and loader to the ecu
