Hey, if I were to take a job in Oak Park, would I need to buy a flak jacket?
Its in the vicinity of North and Harlem if I remember right.

I'm pretty sure you do not need to pack some heat, I don't think it's a sketchy town.

North & Harlem shouldn't be a bad area.. It's just north of the downtown area. Around Austin St. on the east side is the city limits of Chicago, and is known as a real bad area. Towards downtown or the west side of Oak Park near River Forest are good, affluent neighborhoods. I almost chose an apt. there on the southeastern edge of Oak Park.. All the cars on the block were rusted beaters.. except for one black, limo tinted escalade with 25" chrome spinners... We decided not to choose that apt. after seeing that.
The one problem you're going to have is BAD Traffic during morning and evening rush hour commutes. I'm talking like an Hour to an hour and a half each way from Glendale Heights.. on 290, Harlem Ave is a notorious bottleneck, and a lot of traffic jams originate there.

The store's right on North Avenue, so I'd just be rolling straight down it. The idea is to move closer to the city, hopefully be able to buy a place in maybe Lincoln Park or something by fall.

Its not too bad there. Im in rivergrove twice a week for school. You will come to hate North Ave. tho, the traffic is ungodly and they havent redone the street since like the 70s.

Well, as the great philosopher Mick Jagger said, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need." No Oak Park for me at the moment - it was a part-time opening. But, I'll be working in our Naperville location starting soon - I have to have an interview to make it official, but I'm pretty sure as long as I don't pull a Kumar, I'll be set. Its the wrong way - I want to be heading towards the city - but its a temporary thing, with the long-term (i.e. 3-6 months) goal of moving in to leadership.
But the upshot is, I'll be back ta ballin here pretty damn soon.
