Here's the site I plan on following tomorrow when I go over and do it.

Make sure it is COMPLETELY clean and free of grease and oil. Make sure that you block off all the ports with tape before painting. Read the instructions on the rattle can. That's about it.

Um I wouldn't paint the intake. Engine performance WILL be affected by doing it since the natural heat dissapating characteristics of the aluminum will be affected trapping in excess heat.

Good point  I never thought about that.

And yet, the hipo SVT intakes were painted (or powdercoated) black from the factory.

My thoughts exactly, George.

People and their heat paranoia...

Paint mine with heat resistant 2 pack polyurethan. Be sure to clean the surface and since the UIM is porus noneed to scuff it!!

I polished mine.....and it's hotter than hell now...literally. I was one of the first people to completely polish their UIM. It's a VERY painstaking process.

Has anyone ever bead blasted the paint off then finished it up with polish?

the paint (powdercoat) comes off with aircraft grade paint stripped, keep in mind it's aluminum, so bead plasting doesn't even leave a smooth finish and can do more damage than good.

Keep in mind these intake manifolds are not smooth to begin with, they are cast they way they are for heat disipation. The SVT ones are identical on the outside, only it's powdercoated, which smoothes it out.

Painting the UIM isn't going to affect anything, just make sure you use the paint with ceramic in it so it doesn't lose much of the heat dissapation characteristics. Looks great when finished. Just clean it really good and tape off your holes and where the gasket sits. Do a couple coats. There is also a primer and clear coat made for engine parts and intake manifolds and valve covers, etc, to dissapate heat well.
