Not my Cougar, its from the guy I helped today that had a broken down Cougar. He has an MTX and said the shifter cable broke on him while he was driving. Dealer offered replacement for $65, good price?

I took my car to my cousin's shop and found out the shift cable was broken, so i ordered a new cable for 65.00 at the dealer pretty cheap if i was a rich man.

Anyone else had this problem and know of any cheap fixes?

Thanks!

Assuming the car was still under warranty, it should have been fixed for free, no questions asked. If the car's out of warranty, then yes, that's a decent price... Now what are they charging him to install it?? i/expressions/wink.gif

That happened on my 82 Mustang GT and the cable was about 50 bucks. Easy to install and cheaper than having it towed in. I used to pop the clutch on that car a lot. I wonder if he was doing that as well..

I did the same thing on my 2000. It was under warranty though so it was free, but yeah it happened driving like I shouldn't. HEHEHE The beast was stuck in third gear. That was fun to drive.
