Program a KEY - not remote fob

I just need to know how to prgram my third transponder key for the coug. Yes, I already have 2 programmed transponder keys that start the car. I have an additional unprogrammed oem transponder key. I have searched already and tried the sequences that I found, none of them worked. All of them only temporarily programmed my key. Anyone actually have DETAILED instructions that WILL work?

it depends on the car production date. after a certain date (that I can't recall), it has to be done by the dealer... and the instructions to insert one, do something, insert the other, do something, insert the new, etc doesn't work.

someone else might have more specific info, but am thinking that's the problem you are having.

I think it's detailed in the owner's manual, is it not?

here's the info I was thinking of... You need to have the dealer program if you only have (1) already programmed key (vs the earlier years you could program a new one from a single key).

I have the earlier production 99 cougs. And yes I already have two programmed. Tried those sequences, it still isn't working...:mad:

I think I got it but im not sure yet. I ran through the sequence and then waited 20 minutes before starting it with the (new) key. And it worked without a problem. I'll try it again tomorrow and see if it still works...
