There are a lot of pics over on cougardb. As for painting it is easy. Only three real steps involved. Alternate with painting and sanding and then clear. I have no suggestions for your choice of color other than you will have to live with your choice. Choose carefully.

I want to stress sanding. I made that mistake the first time I painted mine. If you don't do it correctly the paint will eventually start bubbling up.

There is a how to for dash removal, linked in the how to faq from team neco. Basically, take your time, sand, make SURE that the surface is both ready for paint, sanded to your desired level of smoothness, and free of contaminents (chemicals like soap or oil will kill paint)
Buy more paint than you need, and spray light coats on. Clear is absolutely necessary.

The most important thing to remember, is that old golden rule... which is that the final result will only be as good as your prep-work.
True, your materials matter too, but you really have to make sure the pieces are as flawless as you can get them before you even apply the first layer of paint... like Paul said.
And, like Paul said, once you get going... do light coats.
3 to 5 light coats of paint is always better than 1 or 2 heavy ones.
Let each coat sit for a while, but not so long that it totally dries.
Most auto stores have an automotive paint section... the first time, I used automotive primer, paint and clearcoat. Turned out pretty good for a DIY job, but, if you want the professional look, you've gotta go to the professionals ;) It costs, but it will look exactly like the outside of your car... and you can even wax it and treat the same way.
As for colors that match laser red? Silver, black... don't try to match a red, its real tough (unless you have actual laser red specially mixed)
