LoL so i got an NOS octane booster from Autozone cause car was kinda sluggish this morning.. says it increases the octane level by 6.. so im running 99 Octane i guess.. and yeah.. put it in and withen 2 minutes had the CEL come on. Cars Running great though. Alot more power. It makes a weird sound at around 5k Rpms. I just hope I didnt blow an O2 sensor or something worse.. Gonna have to check it out at work tomorrow. I usually use STP's Octane booster but this one caught my eye. With another purchace i get a free NOS hat WOO HOO:bowdown:!
All i can say is i guess that it works hahahahahah and im not gonna use one for a while.

I don't believe those raise your octane by points. It's like 6/10's of a point iirc. Could be wrong. Never used one, it's worthless really.

never seen point for them

Yeah if you read carefully on the back of them, each 'point' is equal to some specified percent of an octane number...at best it will raise a tank of fuel 1 maybe 1.5 number. I used to use them, then i apparently learned how to read and realized i was pissing my money away. Save the money spent on octane boost and buy a can of sea foam and put that in your gas....then you'll actually get some benefits, and i dont just mean the smokeshow

It raises it 6 points witch equals .6 octane increase so you went from 89 to 89.6. If you really think you will notice a difference think again. Also you will not just get more power from raising octane. Octane is the anti-knock value. You would get more power if you had knock but our cars out meant to run on 86. Funny how many people have no clue whats in gas already and what all the numbers at the tank really mean.

Anthony,
Is your car chipped? Cuz if not, then octane booster ain't doing squat for your engine. Octane has nothing to do with power; it's a rating of how combustible the fuel is under pressure. The more pressure in the motor, the more resistant to combustion under compression you need the fuel to be. I have to run 93 for my turbo, just to be safe, but your car will be happiest running 87 from a big name gas station. If you think you need a tune up, check your spark plugs and plug wires, and change your filters at the specified intervals. Replacing the fuel filter takes ten minutes. If the car pulled stronger one morning, my bet is that the engine was warmed up and got a nice breath of cold air. :)

Whats been up Gary?
Anyways nah it isn't chipped. Actually it was cool outside that morning it was sluggish till later in the evening, when i put in the booster, and i always let the motor warm up before i hit the gas and go. To be honest its a little sluggish again. And i noticed when i got my car the weather has alot of effect on it. It loves the cold weather. In the summer i got no power at all so i dont ever run the A/C.
The CEL was reading "Bank 2 to lean".
I did a tune up right when i got the car and its been only 12k miles. Autolite Double Platinum plugs(maybe motorcraft, they are the same anyways) and Bosch or motorcraft wires. nothing special just what the car recommended.
And um bdiddy.. we are all technically "ricers" with our Mazda motors in a Mercury shell. Zoom Zoom?

we dont have mazda motors, thats a different v6 the .... the probe, 2.5 (KL-DE i believe) also shared by the mx-6, very different motors from the duratec.
i dont even have a v6
from wikipedia:
Duratec 25
The Duratec 25 is a 2.5 L (2544 cc) 60° V6 and was introduced in 1993. It was developed for the Ford Mondeo and used in the Ford Contour, Ford Cougar, Jaguar X-Type, and others. The Duratec 25 was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1995 and 1996, and the SVT version made the list for 1998 and 1999.

Right, Berg! The Probe/MX-6 engine was a Mazda design. Stout, too.
In Japan, the 2.5L V6 was the higher performance KL-ZE, while the 2.0L was a I4 called the FS-ZE. In Europe and America, the 2.5L V6 was a lower performance KL-DE (often incorrectly referred to as the KL-03) and the 2.0L was the FS or FS-DE.
He might be thinking of the Duratec AJ in the Mazda 6, but that is a Ford engine in a Mazda.

LoL Nah no turbo for my Cougar, for now anyways. gonna spend 3k$ on a super charger for my Fairlane. Yeah i intend on looking into seafoming when i get the chance to put my headers, flyweel, clutch and all on. only thing holding me back on the headers if the MIL eliminators but the link wont let me view it so..

theres really no reason to hold back on the seafoam, in-fact it would be a good idea to do it before to keep the excess carbon out of your new headers. as long as its all together still

You need to take the web address and actually paste it into your browser. Then you should be able to see the diagram. If you do your headers when I'm around I can fab some up in no time.
