Well, I was the designated driver last night for some friends last night (so i drank ****in mountain dew all night) and as I was on my way home, i hit a patch of ice, lost control and ended up hitting a decorative boulder head on, the front bumper, headlights, radiator, windshield, both fenders and right front tire are destroyed and it ripped apart the underside of the engine, oil spilled out. Airbags deployed , and the tow truck driver said something about the front A Frame being bent pretty bad, ionno i was tired and shrugged.

The hunt is on for it's replacement

RIP 2000 MTX DTG Cougar :/ November 25, 2005-January 24, 2008

Sorry for the delay in responding, really havent been around a computer lately~

First off, I'm very glad I was in a cougar when i hit that mound of rocks, Airbags deployed, we actually kinda soft lol, came out perfectly fine, the car held together very well with the exception of what hit the rock (includes ripping apart the undercarriage)

Most likely going to be getting one of the following:

1) Mazda Protege5
2) Ford SVT Focus
3) Audi A4 Quattro

Odd grouping I know but that's what I'm personally paying attention to atm. I'm looking for something a bit more practical and postpone going fast until I graduate from UC

Also~I talked to state farm, I will NOT be able to take ANYTHING off the car except my Amplifiers and Sub. Everything else has to stay and I do not have the stock parts to "fool" them~So the SVT TB, UIM, CAI (still intact suprisingly), and Borla Exhaust (again, suprisingly still in 100% shape) has to go with the coog :(

I'm most likely going to find out on monday that it's totalled~I got an eyeball estimate from the guy @ carstar and he guestimated over 10K in parts and labor~so it's prolly a goner

Thanks again for the support and such, and I'll keep you all posted if i can rip anything off the car and what replaces the coog.

I had the A4 on my short list as well (the Cougar was NO WHERE near the short list). I did a LOT of research on the 96-01 B5 and 02-05 B6 chassis vehicles. What I found was that these are fairly high maintenence vehicles with high repair costs. I also found that with the B5 it was getting hard to find unmolested examples. One thing to be aware of is that the A4 is an interference type engine with atiming belt. What that means is that IF you allow the timing belt to break the valves will crash into the pistons. This will at the very least bend valves, bit can ruin heads, pistons and rods as well. They also have a suspect water pump and it is recommended that it is replaced everytime you replace the timing belt. BTW, Timing belt is recommended every 80K, but people I've talked to recommend doing it at 60K as they tend to last JUST 80K.

But I really WANTED an A4. Okay, so I really wanted a RS4 ;)

Man, I went to check out that SVT Focus down by my house today at Keim Ford - it is SWEET. It has the Euro package, with the projector headlamps, Euro grille, and gunmetal 17's. Black heated leather; AWESOME CAR, $9988. I would have bought it myself, except that it's... yellow...

Wow, the SVT sounds like a really nice buy. Stand clear of Audi/VW cars unless you have a manufacturer's warranty. I love my GTI, but it has had a handful of issues already and I haven't even hit 30k miles. They haven't been major issues, but the repairs would have not been cheap without the warranty.

hmm thats a shame man :(
hope everyones ok and everything works out
as far as parting things out goes, how would they even know parts were missing? :)
i doubt they have a mechanic go over the engine and stuff to make sure you haven't stolen some parts off your own car...
if it does go to a local junkyard near you, i'd pay you if you could get the rear bumper

It's official- Got the call this afternoon: "Robert, I'm calling to inform you that your cougar is a total loss" followed by I will be putting together a vehicle inspection form and sending it to State Farm and we will need no furthur correspondence, this is now back in the hands of state farm

He said he stopped @ 12000 dollars in parts and labor, with significant repairs needed beyond that.

Lesson of the day: Remember kids, big ass rocks and cars do not play nicely
