I am going to put a new exhaust in the car. First question: What size pipes? I have 2 1/4" in now. Ever since I got the headers installed, I can feel back pressure. I know I need to go bigger but how much is the question. Its got CAI, Injen intake SVT tb, extrude honed uim, and headers. Is 3" too much? I'm thinking 2.75 or 3.
Second question: I have magnaflo now, but its too loud. Neighbors give me dirty looks. What gives a low rumble?

eff the neighbors
i have the trubendz kit with the borla on it. its not bad, but can be loud when yo want it to be
3" is too big. a 2.5" kit would be plenty for you

Would .25" really make much of a difference? I just don't want to waste money and still feel the back pressure. I wish there was some way to test to find out what would work.
i got a full 3"in Exhaust done with out the 3rd cat and for me it was worth it car run's smoother but if your car is loud now it will be even louder after 3in piping
What does backpressure 'feel' like?

cruising speed is fine, acceleration is when you feel it. basically, car eats a can of beans and can't lift up its butt cheek to let it out.

(trolling...)
I dunno; I'd say that's a different problem entirely.
GMK was laying down mid-14 second quarter-mile runs with a 2.5" exhaust. The larger the diameter, the lower the exhaust velocity, the worse the scavenging becomes. It's pretty much a rule that 2.5" is ideal for a modified N/A 2.5L.
The secret to a nice exhaust note is a resonator of some kind. A muffler with just truck-tip straight pipes out the back is LOUD, no matter what kind of muffler it is. If there are resonators before the tips, it cleans it up and refines the exhaust note immeasurably.
I started out with a Flowmaster muffler and straight pipes out, and took it off because it was embarrassingly loud. I added a pair of Borla resonators, and it's FANTASTIC.
Your Magnaflow would probably sound great with resonated tips.

:rofl::rofl: That should SO be added in the Performance FAQ section

I have the 2.25" Borla as well, same mods as you. I think in my mind that it would help going to 2.5", however, I'm weary on spending the money. Since I love the sound it makes now. If you had a 2.5, like Andy said, buy some resonated tips. That's what makes the Borla so quiet, it's loud as crap unless you put them on.

new exhaust installed! I think its like the set up Sonza had or still has. This time its 2.5" pipes and just one long magnaflo where the resonator was located at. I also got stainless steel magnaflo tips that look pretty sweet. Its quiet while cruising but its still got a little growl when accelerating, but hopefully not so much to get dirty looks from neighbors.

So, does it feel like it's opened up at all. A little more power?

Yes it does, but I haven't really opened it up yet. Winter weather sucks for that, but now we are warming up.

Ok cool. Maybe i'll possibly ditch the borla... but it sounds so good.
No don't get rid of the borla dude! it's the nicest cougar exhaust you could get!
I had a dual cf-tipped borla on my cougar for a while!

Done.. it's slow as hell anyway. A 1/4" bigger exhaust wouldn't be worth the effort for sound/power/cost ratios.

I had to get something new, thats partly why I upgraded pipes
