Ok so i just wanna ask you guys what you think. I'm concidering getting a underdrive pulley and am worried about my alt.

Im currently running a 2 amplifier system with a 1 farad cap, and 4 ga wire. (big 3 not done, will be come summer) together the amps are rated to take a max draw of 70 amps. and as is running at 4 ohms i get some slight dimming, with the sub at 1 ohm i get pretty drastic dimming but its generally kept at 4ohms. voltage always reads good tho, 14.4 without stereo goin and never drops below 13 on heavy bass

how much more strain will an UDP put on my alt, would it be necessary for me to overdrive my alt. I dont wanna look into a high output alt until the current one goes on me.
ive seen similiar topics brought up but it didnt quite answer the problem for my type of setup
just asking what you guys think.

considering the factory alt. is rated at about 160-170amps you will probably be OK. however it certainly wouldnt hurt to get the alt. ODP

Alright, this might sound stupid but....why not od the alt & ud the crank?
Wouldn't it give you the power needed from the alt plus free up the crank a bit or would it basically be the stock setup just changing pulleys?

iceberg, I know either way it will kinda strain the alt. I'd say underdrive it for the horsepower, but if your bass hits enough to stress the alt it might kill the car. Which would definately suck on the road.

I'd agree that getting a higher amp alt would prolly be best & I feel like you wait till the current one goes.

thx k peeks, thats kinda the purpose of this thread, to find out what the difference in gains would be overdrivin the alt with the uD pulley and if its necessary for the od alt

prolly gonna be putting off the ODP now anyway, someone smashed my tail light today

Thread Dredge:

I thought I might get some info posted about this. My friend & I were talking about doing mods to the Zetec & I asked about the UDP & ODP setup.

Just the UDP won't hurt you & of course give you some hp gains.
The ODP only will strain the motor a little more & shorten the alt life.
With both UDP & ODP it will give you power gain from the alt & the hp gain, he said it prolly would be a negligable loss on the alt life span.

So anyone that was wondering about what to do when it came to the pulleys there you go. So I think I'll be investing in a UDP & ODP soon.
