....so i picked up a zetec out of a 98 contour in october and i just finished disassembling everything. i measured each piston and they are all in spec, the cylinders still have the honing marks in them, i measured the main bearing number 1 clearence and that is at .038mm, the spec is between .020-.065mm. i measured rod 1 and it was at .050mm, with the same spec as the mains. so far im in great shape. the head is perfectly square and flat so it doesnt need to be resurfaced, the rod bearings are the only things so far that are worn, the mains arent too bad. still all the bearings are being replaced for obvious reasons. the block supposedly has ~85,000 miles on it. ill post pics hopefuly by the end of the weekend, ive got a bunch so far. turbo build will be done by august. ill keep yall updated.

So, did you plastigauge those journals then? After I replaced my bearings I didn't bother checking oil clearances.

So, are you going with aftermarket pistons and rods?

One thing that has been on my mind is the PCV system. I still have to work out my PCV system since it is currently venting to ATM. When I first had my car tuned I had the stock PCV valve in and there was a lot of oil coming out of the valve cover breather, which makes sense since during boost it would have just been pushing air from the intake manifold to the crankcase.

you will want to use the stock PCV valve. however dont run it into the intake manifold. instead route it through an oil separator and then into the intake pipe BEFORE the turbo. this will give you a vacuum on the crankcase all the time but most importantly when your under a heavy load. you should also run your valve cover vent through a second oil separator and then into the intake piping before the turbo as well.

If you do that it will stay a "closed" system AND will not pressurize the crankcase from boost.

im gonna stick with the stock rods and pistons cuz everything looks good and its less money i have to spend. im not gonna check the clearences with the new bearings installed if they are in spec witht he old ones, they will be with the new ones. im just gonna have the crank journals polished and have a simple valve job done to ensure good valve seating, and just clean everything up and paint the valve cover. so once i get my tax money back, ill get everything i need and have it back together and do cylinder leak test and compression test with the motor out of the car. i would hate to install the motor and have something be messed up.
heres some pics hopefully the link works for you guys.
