View Full Version : Motor Trend Meet
Well, it's almost time for the Motor Trend show again at the Baltimore Convention Center. Since it seems like we usually have a meet to attend, it's time to make some plans.
This year it's from Thursday, February 7 - Sunday, February 10.
Do we want to go on Saturday (hours 10 am to 10 pm) or Sunday (hours 10 am to 7 pm)? Sunday is "Family Day", fyi.
Here is the website: MotorTrendShows.com (http://www.motortrendautoshows.com/baltimore/) with all other important information.
Cost is $10 for adults; $6 for military (with ID).
Information on the Baltimore Convention Center can be found here. (http://www.bccenter.org/about/map.html)
Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Nah, just a regular car show. See the new models, listen to the sales pitches, figure out how they got the Hummer up on the impossibly steep slope, and spend ten minutes trying to open the hood of the Solstice. That kind of thing. We had a good time last year (http://www.newcougar.org/forums/maryland-neco/106210-2-11-07-meet-now-pics-5.html#post1213972). (My pics here (http://rjmarq.org/cougar/meet-20070211/).)
None of our meets are ever "just" Cougars!
While we're all Cougar enthusiasts, we're very accepting of other cars and owners as well. At meets we've had an Evo, a tC, an xB, a Corolla, an Xterra, a Jeep, a motorcycle, and various others that I can't remember at the moment. Some of those are people who owned Cougars previously, some who own them currently and some are friends of NECO members who like the group and choose to stop by and say hi to us.
Anyway, the point is that as a Contour owner you never have to worry about whether or not you're welcome at a meet. :)

haha, okay well. i will talk to dad and maybe we can cough out of work or whatever to come.
we're a little tight due to saving up and car projects for ford nationals and GM nationals.
we'll see.
Hopefully you can both make it out.

Hey now this is a meet I might actually be able to make it to! (Yeah, just like the last few )
+1 for Saturday, tho. Would there be any attempt to park together and gawk at each other's cars (since its in the city, I guess that might be an issue . . .), or do you just meet at the convention center?

Certain members do not like to drive their Cougars in Baltimore. :)
Not that I blame them - on the way home from this meet last year, I hit a VERY nasty hole (it was dark and I couldn't see it until the last moment) caused by a metal plate that had slid a foot or two. :banghead:
On top of that, it'd be seriously difficult to find parking together. Much easier to meet at the convention center.
I lightrail it. :flushed:

Well, if i screw up my suspension in Baltimore, all the more reason to upgrade
But yeah, makes sense.

Well, its not a matter of ground clearance when you're driving in Baltimore. Its a matter of cobblestone, decaying roads, random bits of railroad track, craters (some would call them potholes), etc. Basically, they put no money into the roads.
My high school was in the city, requiring me to drive on Frederick road every week day. Watching cars driving down that road is like watching a ballet with all the avoiding potholes and whatnot.
Fun stuff.

For the same reason that you can't pump your own gas in New Jersey . . . its New Jersey.

Seriously - Baltimore roads are bad. They're much worse than the Detroit roads I experienced. (For a town that loves cars so much, very odd that they'd have bad roads.)
I like my wheels. I'd like to keep them round. I'd also like my car to be where I left it after the show. The lightrail stops right at the Convention Center, all I have to do is cross the street. It's really a no-brainer for me. :wiggle:
Mike, coming from DE you'd come up 97N to go towards the city. I highly recommend getting off at Dorsey Road and hitting Cromwell Station and saving yourself the aggravation... We can all park together there.

i'll take this into consideration. i still have to talk to dad and see if he wants to go......or you all can stop by here or phone him up n "make" him go...or just to let me go....lol
So who plans on coming out for this? We should try to make some plans since it's coming up and everybody likes to have plenty of notice...

The Post has a time lapse video (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/video/2008/01/24/VI2008012401292.html?hpid=artslot) of the set-up for the DC show - it's pretty cool. It includes a closeup of a Vette being parked, too. :)
Okay so Friday night I have airport duty. Saturday morning I have a hair appointment (beginning to look a little shaggy), Saturday afternoon I have plans and by Saturday night I think I may be passed out from exhaustion. Sunday I am hopefully getting my new sunroof put in.
Soooo, it's not looking good for me to make it out for this. :(

Noooooooooooooooooo!
Airport duty?
New sunroof?
Who is left that's interested in going? Saturday is still better for me (due to skating Sunday).
Got to pick up Mom from the airport (coming back from Vegas).
Found a "new" sunroof at the junk yard, thanks to a very nice person who doesn't want anyone to know that they are nice.
