Looks like the Ravens will be starting 2008 with a new years resolution.

I'm glad to see that he's gone. Why?

Lackluster, predictable offense.

Too many penalties occurred, especially the personal fouls, which speak as a lack of discipline on his part.

Raven's have been through way too many quarterbacks

Too much reliance on the defense. Offensive drive were pretty much offensive. We always seemed to settle for FGs instead of going for TDs.

We needed a fresh new open minded perspective on offense.

He was never an offensive guru.

Discuss.

 You really are excited.

In all seriousness, I'm glad they finally made the change. He was so set in his ways that he wouldn't change things that needed to be changed or try new ideas.
Hopefully we can get someone in who can make some changes and get things working like they should be.
Bischotti says it was a difficult decision but that it is in the Ravens best interest. There's an understatment.

Ozzie said that they'd consider Rex for head coach. That could be good...

And now Gibbs has resigned! (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/08/AR2008010801636.html)

There's no way the Redskins will ever be a good team if they don't stick with a coach for more than a couple years at a stretch...

Yes, but the consensus among the 'Skins fans that I work with was that he did more harm than good anyway. Next season should be interesting, huh?

Ravens 2008 opponents:
Home - Bengals, Browns, Steelers, Jaguars, Titans, Raiders, Eagles, Redskins.
Away - Bengals, Browns, Steelers, Texans, Colts, Dolphins, Cowboys, Giants.

I sorta think the problem with the Redskins is not at the coach level. I'm thinking it's at the Dan Snyder level. I'm no expert on the NFL or the Redskins, but how many coaches have they been through since Gibbs retired the first time? It takes a couple seasons for a coach to get the players that fit into their schemes, I'd expect, but if they leave after just a few seasons, no system is ever really comfortable to the players.

I will say that I figured Gibbs wouldn't be a panacea. And his record shows that. I kinda miss Spurrier - he was more entertaining, and he was staying out of UGA's hair while he was here! :)

On a lighter note, here are a couple sports mis-phrases I've heard in the last two days for your enjoyment:
--During the NCAA championship game last night, talking about Ohio State losing last year (and initially looking good last night, before things went downhill for them): "They've really exercised their demons."

--From an advertisement for WWE or something: "Now we have a new pretender!"

 I thought I was the only one who heard the "exercised" comment.

Snyder is definitely the biggest part of the Redskins problem, but the fans are happy about Gibbs moving on in my office. (Much as most Ravens fans are happy about the Billick change)

That's funny. When he was hired it seemed like it was the second coming of Jesus. How far the mighty have fallen...

 I heard the same thing here.

Even some of my friends that are Skins fans wanted to see Gibbs go.

Ravens Name Harbaugh New Head Coach

The Ravens are proud to announce that John Harbaugh will become the third head coach in franchise history.

Harbaugh, the former secondary coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, joined the club Friday night after a long day of meetings with owner Steve Bisciotti, general manager Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens’ search committee. After a nine-year successful stint as the Eagles special teams coordinator, Harbaugh moved to lead the secondary in 2007.

Known for his energy and charisma, the 45-year-old will be introduced at a press conference at noon Saturday.

“I’m a football coach, and I am excited to be the head coach of the Ravens,” said Harbaugh. “It’s a big job and an opportunity to work with great people. I cannot wait to get started.”

Thoughts?

Why do they announce these things then have an introduction?

To appease the fans who want to know NOW.

I know. It's just funny - this one isn't quite the same, but a lot of times you hear that "such-and-such team is having a press conference to announce so-and-so for their new coach". It's like, "Well, there goes the thunder from that press conference!" :)

Tigg

 Well they want to build the anticipation and make sure people actually show up for the conference... ;)

I think this is what we might be looking for. From what I've read he seems to be more of a player's coach. Only one way to find out and we really can only go up from here.

You think? I bet we could go 0-16 if we really tried.
But in all seriousness, I agree. Something needed to change, things weren't working the way they were and hopefully this will bring about some cohesiveness so that every part of the team works together and we can be strong again. :)

Yeah, I was thinking that Dolphin fans would disagree with Henry's statement. :)

Rikenbomb

What Dolphins fans should be screaming for is a new owner. That's coming from my father who's a Dolphins fan. But I guess Bill Parcels should do. If you see Parcels leave, you know it has to do with something above him. Anyways...

I doubt we can go 0-16 even if we tried. The odds are against us. I look forward to next season with new hope. Let's see who is hired for OC and DC positions. More importantly who the starting QB will be.

Hopefully not McNair.

Hopefully not Boller either. :poke:

Tigg

I'd take him any day of the week over McNair. McNair needs to go hang out with Billick on the Eastern Shore.
Hopefully with a new coaching system both Boller and Smith can get some much needed direction and they can both be a threat to start and be successful.

Well, we got a new Offensive Coordinator - Cam Cameron...
The former head coach of the Dolphins.
Ravens Hire Offensive Coordinator (http://www6.comcast.net/sports/articles/general/2008/01/23/FBN.Ravens.Cameron/)

I heard on the news last night that Jim Fassel is the leading applicant for the Redskins' head coaching (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8062c9b1&template=with-video&confirm=true) job and that Rex Ryan is up for the Defensive Coordinator position there.

And we are keeping out Defensive Coordinator, Rex Ryan!

He's also our Assistant Head Coach! Hopefully good things will come for the Ravens!
