cool let us know how it goes. If you need a guide on how to take that stuff off I can scan my dealer shop book pages it will show you step by step. If you get the carb cleaner though i just got like a paint can of it at autozone cause I went through two of the spray cans real fast.

A brass brush would be ideal I think for the upper intake manifold. A drill makes things easier, but I just did it by hand with some carb cleaner. Brake cleaner takes about anything off as well. Such nasty chemicals.

is there anything wrong with soaking the lower intake manifold in a chemical. such as simple green? i was told ot do that. but then i read somewhere that it could damage the LIM. help?

I don't think it'd damage it - I just don't think it'll work.
I agree with Tygerr though - Brake Cleaner is incredible stuff for doing this, if it's available where you live (I think it's illegal in some states).

I had my UIM hot tanked at Napa Auto for like $25 and it came out spotless. (it technically wasn't "hot tanked", as the guy said there's another process for Aluminum that's more of a dishwasher system, but don't remember it's name).

mainly all that your doing is finding a chemical that will dissolve the material in the intakes. With simple chemistry, you realize that carbon and grease dont normally dissolve in water. So it becomes logical to use a solvent that binds to the grase/carbon and allows it to be removed from the wanted area. Same thing kinda goes for brake dust. I wont come off with entirely water, but with some simple detergent it comes right off. thats prob what napa uses. They prob have an industrial chemical that can be used for any variety of aluminum for cleaning purposes.
