To anyone reading this, I think you know where I'm about to go ... pushing the limits on Project Mavro Gato! There is only one small problem ... I have a turbo and intercooler setup that can far outpower the current clutch setup (Spec Stage 3). The clutch starts to slip north of 14psi. With an estimated driveline loss of 15%, putting down 374 ft/lbs. of torque @ 11psi is rouhgly 440 ft/lbs. at the flywheel. The Stage 3 clutch is only rated for ... you guessed it, 440 ft/lbs. So, I'm at the end of my clutch it seems :banghead:

So, I could go balls to the wall and get a Stage 5 clutch and crank the boost till she can't take any more, or I can go Stage 3+ and pick up an extra 100+ ft/lbs at the flywheel AND get a more well manered clutch to boot. Stage 5 will be completely unstreetable and is out of the question. So, I'm leaning towards a Stage 3+. Problem is, with fixing other odds and ends, I don't have the money to buy the clutch!

So, if you are like me and want to see just what this engine can take, please feel free to send your sponsorship dollars to fastcougar@gmail.com via PayPal. With your help, I'm sure we can attain 500 whp! Please help a starving engine :flushed:

Or, you could simply buy my rims (http://www.newcougar.org/forums/fs-automotive-parts-accessories/114658-19-konig-verdicts-toyo-proxesfz4-225-35zr19-tires-price-lowered-11-8-2007-a.html)

Trevor; i think you need 4 wheel drive. If you keep on piling on the power...something as insignificant as a big end bolt is going to let go and the whole motor will be destroyed. If you don't have the money for a clutch..i doubt you have the money for a total rebuild. Just don't want you to lose everything..love what you're doing..ride the crest a while...Happy holidays..G.

The motor can take it ... of that I have no doubt. I didn't spend $7K on the driveline for nothing. I'm just starting to find the weak links now. If I could just sell these rims, all would be good ... for awhile ... until I find the next weak link ;)

^^^ I dont think a stage 3 clutch is a "weak point", there good clutches its that the power you want to make aint really "street". My probe was making around 300 at the wheels, i replaced my stage 3 every summer. There good clutches, but can only handle so much abuse just like everything else. The only reason im not building up my cougar b/c the same problem w/ the probe, it seemed like these "minor weak spots" kept it off the road, i ended up with a once a month car instead of a daily driver and the bank account just went lower every day. And the wife didn't like it so much.

I think you should pick up the SPEC Stage 3+, i hear it feels almost like a stock clutch. According to the SPEC website it holds a nice 540 Ft/Tq.

I met with Gary on Monday for lunch and drove his Cougar. I was amazed at how smooth the clutch engaged compared to my Stage 3. I was able to drive his car for a few miles and I must say, I can't go wrong with that clutch.

The point of this thread was more to draw attention to the build and it's possibilities vs. getting people to donate money to the cause of putting in a new clutch. I can afford the clutch, but can't justify the purchase ... unless I sell the rims and thus why I linked to them. However, if someone has a wild hair up their ass and want's to donate $500, I will put it towards a great cause

Since I've got the SPEC 3+, the 90mm MAF, and 8.5:1 compression, maybe we should see how much *my* kittie can handle?

Can I join? I have a measley 2.5L H4 with a littly itty bitty turbo... :)

On a more serious note... I would like to see dyno comparisons between your 2 setups...
