Hey,
Have you guys ever thought about getting together with the SVT contour guys for your big meet? We have out "Spring Zing" every year and basically the cars are the same. Im sure it would be fun for everyone and I know some of the cougar guys have SVT's and vice versa. I dunno just a thought.

I will not be 'zinging' anywhere! no sir!
I will not Zing in the rain, I will not Zing on a train, I will not Zing, Sam I am, and I will certainly not zing in the spring!

the cougar peeps and the contour peeps dont get along too well for the most part. dont know why for sure but it stems back from the start of the neco boards. The focus peeps did want to try and do something but we kinda passed on it cause the only thing that we share is the motor, and there was all of what 2 I4's at fest

When: May 15-18th

Thats the SZ info. More can be found on the contour website. I dunno, I just think it would be cool since its the same car almost.

Well I posted it. Awaiting for my warning or bannation from them. I dunno, maybe its just me but there seem to be the people that hate on each other from the forums. No idea why but I still think it would be fun to get together, share ideas, get plastered in the parking lot lol

That's a really broad statement, and I disagree with it completely.
There are a few that refuse to get along, but for the most part, NECO and CEGers get along very well, attend each other's meets, mod together, form group buys together, and share the same passion for the platform.
There is cross-membership from both sites. People gain many positive things from both sites.

But getting them to form a single bash during the year instead of two separate is a lost cause.
And with good reason. Like Matt said - it's called Cougarfest for a reason. To celebrate the Cougars. Same with SZ - the focus is on the Contours. Yeah trolls show up to both events, but they're still there with one focus - on just the Cougar at one event and just the Contours at the other event.
Splitting the focus just makes things difficult, and frankly that's what Fun Ford Weekend and Fords at Carlisle events are for.

same feeling here. in fact aircougar has already had two meets this year that where a mix of NECO and CEG and everyone got along

ya but that meet waaay earlier this year in Attleboro was awkward for me. it was a CEG meet and me and greg were the only cougar people there. and despite him driving his contour there people (with the exception of Kim the Great ) were kinda ignoring us. i mean they were polite enough to shake hands and say hi, but after that they left us alone.

The CEG guys that have come to the NECO meets I've been to have pretty much been the same way - polite but aloof.

you would think when you start telling them that you have suicide doors, complete suede interior, custom fiberglass sub enclosure, nitrous, 3l swap, s/c, etc... that you would gain their attention. nope! you own a cougar so you are beneath them or something.

i have to admit that i haven't been to a meet at gregs (mostly cougar) where there are a few contours there. i've been there when 1 or 2 are there, but that doesn't count.

I've met several CEG people. Some are nicer than others, as can be found in ANY group. I've trolled to three different CEG meets all over Florida and while felt welcome, there always was a contour > cougar feeling in the air. I kind of went with the idea that since our cars are "brothers" it shouldn't be a big deal, but I wasn't really wild about constantly hearing how much better the contour is compared to the cougar.

And on top of that, some of them had the SVT complex, which is just a rabid animal. Guess you have a few like that in the focus groups and many in the mustang groups as well though. *shrug*

Sure they may be faster than a stock cougar, but the cougar will always be the better looking car, lol.

If any of the CEG guys want to share a beer at fest, by all means, it'd be nice to have them... but I don't think purposely trying to make it a ceg/neco meet for fest of all ocassions is really the best idea.

Social situations are always awkward when someone is new. So you either gotta strike up conversation or jump into existing conversation.
If you're a regular to those meets, you'll notice that there are always small groups of conversations going on at once. Rarely are we all on the same page. So you just gotta pick a couple people and mingle. If conversation with them stinks, then you move on.

The New England group can be a really vulgar group too, and we know this. We know that we can come on strong, and if we don't know much about a new person, then we try our best to let them ease into the madness on their own terms rather than dump on them all at once. So the newbs are the ones that set their own pace.
If they're just as vulgar, they fit right in. :)

It's even harder if you're a newb that doesn't follow the posts on the other forum very often. You're just completely unaware of the vibe, so a meet in person without that exposure first is even more difficult.
And that's another possible reason why the inter-forum national meets don't always work well. You gotta be a regular on a particular forum to reall -get- it.

I think when you walk in with that perception, you're most likely going to look for anything to confirm that for you, even if it isn't true.
I don't know ANYONE in my group that thinks they're better than anyone else (well except for zorrex - we're all better than him. heh)

The Attleboro meet had a lot of guys that were also fairly new, and they're also some of our shyest members, even today! They don't say much, they just rely on everyone else to do the talking.
We're just not smare at being social I guess. lol

On top of that, an old member made an appearance after years of not attending meets, so there was a lot of catching up being done with him.
ALSO, you did show up pretty late to the meet, so you had a lot of catching up to do yourself.

There are other issues within the group that you don't even know about that cause tension at meets. Some of us don't even talk to other members at meets because of that tension in the air. So you may have picked up on some of that too.

All of the CEG and Ford Contour people I've met have been great. :)
MD NECO has even adopted Mike (69Boss302).

I can see the reasoning for wanting to keep CougarFest separate but the idea of combining them isn't that horrible.

Thats strange hearing about all that, around here pretty much every meet is cross-posted between the NECO, CEG, and FocalJet guys. We all get along great, and all our meets end up looking like this.

I'm not sure why some groups have the "conflict" thing, its always seemed like a very natural partnership around Arizona and I've only seen one case where someone in one group tried to act like their group was "better" than the others.

Yeah. Our Impala meets are really W-body meets, so we get Grand Prixs, Monte Carlos, and Impalas there (all W-bodies are invited but Regal, Century, LaCrosse, Cutlass Supreme, and Intrigue owners apparently aren't into it like we are). We love 'em all, and although there are separate clubs for each car, each club always extends the invitation to meets to the others.

Don't hate.

Here's another thought: isn't attendance at CougarFest slowly declining? At some point we might have to combine out of simple necessity.

Well, that's simply inevitable. When a car dies or gets total, it's owner and the car usually get removed from 'fest. And well, there isn't anything we can do to keep either of those from happening :(

Not necessarily, there are a number of members who attend CF who don't own Cougars anymore, plus new people are buying cars. With a couple hundred thousand built, they aren't exactly rare. What will kill CF, is when the number of dedicated members drops too low.

ya, for the 'regulars', cougarfest has become almost completely about hanging out with good friends... Some of us have formed real friendships over the years... I wouldn't care if no one had a cougar. I WOULD care if I lost contact with any of the friends I've made since joining this forum :)

The only thing I can think of that makes people seem distant at meets is because very rarely do we cross the borders to each others forums and are active in both. So if someone feels distant or seems distant, it's because there is rarely a sense of connection.

If there is any dislike amongst the small family of boards, it's going to be some knuckleheads from CEG and some knuckleheads from FCO that mostly live in the Great Lakes region that can't seem to get along still after 7 years of inbred fighting.

I spend most of my time on CEG, stop in here when I get bored, Tigg pesters me or I want to play the arcade. But I know on the day I finally get to a MD meet, I won't know who is who or any of the board gossip of what's going on.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go suck at Curveball now.

I can see Cougarfest dwindling down to 20 people and still being stable enough for a yearly event. Yeah Contours would make it a large event again, but we sort of gave up on that after Mercury stopped footing the bill. I think this thread has already summed up that Cougar/Contour owners would be welcome at each others events, but neither would willingly give up an existing tradition. An open invite between the two events already exists, but as was also stated previously the Contour folk prefer Contour folk, and Cougar folk prefer Cougar folk. It's just human nature. I don't see what combining the events would do except make it larger, and larger events usually create more chaos than benefit.

This is just my 2¢ I'm throwing in. If everyone demanded combined events I'd be up for it, as long as I could still bring my Cougar :)

Coming in to the discussion a little late, but I've gone to the FL CEG meets Mike's gone to - some Contour > Cougar there, but I've felt it was just meant to be teasing us.

And the 2 times I've run the Tail of the Dragon with CEG, there really hasn't been any of that. I also have met CEG members when I was going to the Dragon on non-meet occasions. I visit their SE area boards fairly often, and feel welcome.

If I ever have that much time off, I'll probably do Zing and Fest, and the Dragon, and FL NECO meets, FL CEG meets, and ....
and feel welcome at all of them.

Quite a few of the local CEG guys always said they preferred hanging out at our Cougar meets because we were more fun and down to earth.

I know we did try to have a meet-up with some local FocalJet folks, but they basically disappeared into their own clique and didn't want anything to do with us at all during the entire evening. That was awkward. :)

Thats strange, because the Focaljet guys here are rediculously kick-ass and we go to pretty much all their events. The FocusFanatics guys came to us a couple months back for a drive, and they enjoyed us so much they actually requested us by name to be invited to their next drive next month.

I've never understood why some places have problems with different groups getting together. It seems to me to be a very natural partnership. The Cougar/Contour/Focus are all Ford FWD compacts with ZETEC/DURATEC engines that are phenomenal cornering cars.

Ya'll can keep your opinions as mine is already solidified by personal experience, but I've only met a few Contour people who weren't absolute dicks. Starjammir and Buckshot being two of those.
