Hi Guys; my seat belts are not recoiling as well as they used to. Does anyone know how to get them working nicely again ? I took them apart and there are no twists and the mechanism seems to run smoothly. The belt winds back very slowly and sometimes gets shut in the door  ...ideas please...G.

Mine to, But it only seems to happpen when it is cold out. Maybe some grease on that bad boy will fix it up.

Same problem here... and it's DAMN cold out. I'm with darksleeper123: try some grease. I haven't tried it (with the Cougar), but my last car was a Tempo & it had those stupid automatic shoulder belts. A little grease in the tracks sure helped!

...i put wd40 on spring mechanism in the door pillar. I wondered if there was a trick to rejuvinating the belt itself..G.

Dont Grease them, silicone them. Grease gets thicker the colder it gets. That would be bad.

in case you're wondering where to get some silicone too, 3m makes a silicone spray that's the same concept as wd40

OK guys i've cracked this one. Furniture polish. I sprayed (soaked) it on the belt itself. I bought a used belt and stripped all the trim down...only to find it didn't snap back. So; i sprayed the entire belt from the coil to the buckle and hey presto...it nearly takes my fingers off....i've now done both sides. Oh..the guy at the breakers said the belt mechanisms are 'handed'...they aren't...it's just the wire guide needs turning round..so get yourself two passenger belts 'cos they've had less use...enjoy...G.
