if your system isn't empty it needs to be takin in to a shop, can't have that freon crap in the air for some reason. if it is empty jack it up and look at it, it not that hard if you look at it because you can then tell what needs to be done

Kustomcougar is right. According to Title 6 of the Clean Air Act, you need, under law, to use proper reclaiming equiptment to remove the R-134a. Then it's just a matter of unbolting it and bolting it right back up. But be sure to cap the ends of the A/C lines that you remove. When they are exposed to the air, the dessicant absorbs moisture. So keep the lines plugged at all times.

i would suggest doing a new orifice tube and accumultor if u need a compressor. how do u know the compressor needs replacing? just because the a/c doesnt work doesnt mean the compressor is dead could be electrical problem or clogged orifice tube or a condenser. i would suggest recharging the system and putting dye into the system then running the a/c for a while then check to see where the dye is coming from if theres a leak, if u havent already done it. i would take it somewhere that does good a/c work and im sure thats what they will tell u. if they just say u need a new compressor without checking everything then they are most likely wrong and dont know what they are doing. but if they check the system for all the possibilites before assuming its your compressor, then they know what they are doing. just to give u a heads up.

...mine was surging when i switched it on. The guy at the center said it probably has low pressure in the system and needs recharging. Phew ! i though my compressor was futzed too, G.

Supposidley HFC 134a is not harmful to the o zone.

Where did you hear that? It sure is harmfull. It just isn't AS harmfull as R-12.

false....r134-a has ZERO o-zone depletion potential by EPA section 608 standards, it is NOT harmful to the O-zone due to it having no chlorine content

Maybe it was the whole "global warming" thing I was thinking about then...

thats what it was, it does still carry global warming potential

Will low pressure in the condenser cause the car to squeak and jerk like every 45 seconds or so? Its like a high pitch squeak along with a very settle buck. It will only do it when the A/C is on. Its really weird. I never drive with my ac on for that reason.
