In the ebay add it states it will add 50hp. Can I install this without damaging my engine?

:ty:
J/K

Actually I got myself a 4 position SCT Chip flashed by Nautilus Performance and I'm loving it! New rev limiter @ 7400 rpm, no speed limiter, turned off rear 02s, 87 and 91 octane tunes, and an anti theft no start setting

Now tuned for the SVT cams it has really woken up. I may just have to dyno this thing in the spring.

What those chips can and cannot do exactly????
Would I see any improvment on my car (see mod in sig) ????

They really can benefit any car, but the more effective performance parts you have the more gains you can expect. I'd say with gutted precats, exhaust, and intake you could pick up decent gains.

I actually prefer the XCal2/3 but this was cheaper and I don't plan on doing further (major) performance mods on this car.

As I know the chip-tuning is an ECU tuning, and the gains are 10-15% of the h.p. of the car on non-turboed engines and about 30% on turboed engines...
the torque increases too, and some people say that the mpg increases slightly...and no damage on the engine.

...and no damage on the engine.

welcome! but please dont make unjustified claims. There is real potential to do damage to your engine... why? because you are given free reign to make some pretty dangerous adjustments.

If you are using a competitant tuner and not screaming at him that you want a no compromise balls out tune, then yes your probably going to be OK.

well, here when u tune up your ECU, you are given warranty and you don't pay lil' money for the tuning, so the job is done with some limitations and there is really no harm for the engine. well if you have money enough for repairs, then you do it the risky way

if chip off ebay is a chip module then dont put it on your car. it is crap and i bet you wont even pass emission if u need to for your inspection. if your going to get a chip, make sure its an ecu plug in, so you take it out when needed. i hear the sct is reall the best you can get, oh by the way dont put a chip on if ur not done moding your car. its really pointless unless you are.

well, the chip tuning is a ecu tuning only if its the $300 ones that actually plug in the ecu directly. otherwise, the chips from ebay that go for $20, are pure garbage.
I didnt know much about these, so i took my chances and bought one and as soon as I started my cougar, the idling got all screwed up and my check engine light went on.
DO NOT BUY ANY CHIP THAT PLUGS INTO THE IAT SENSOR!!!

yeah if your going to buy one I have a superchip I like and it wasnt 300. The really nice one I hear for the cougars is the SCT.

Actually I have a Superchip but I forgot they dont still sale them. I have the blue one that says superchip on it. I think that one is different from the SCT. If i'm wrong then I learned something today.

The blue superchips were a standard tune that was given to all vehicals of that model. Normally they caused problems with the cars they were installed in. The red SCT chips are the newer versions that superchips sells. The only way to get a good tune out of a chip is to go to a dyno and have a tuner tune the chip for your car. Mail order tunes can come close but usually they aren't perfect.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. It would be nice to compare these two binaries. There just isn't too much these piggy boxes at all. Maybe someone with moates tools could help? :)

You can tune the red SCT chips yourself if you get the pro racer package from SCT with a chip burner.
