Everyone needs a Subie
Go for what you can afford and set a budget. It took me over 6months to find mine but it was worth it.
Find one adult owned and unmodded - they are out there.
Make sure you comb the classifieds on NASIOC
whats your price range? Be smart and get what you can afford to pay for.. and keep in mind that the insurance on a WRX or STi is about 3 times that of a Cougar.

start here..
Private Car 'For Sale' Classifieds - NASIOC (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=89)
next check out Don Miller's used lot in Madison - they usually have some used WRX's at all times. MadCity Wheels currently has 3 WRB (same color as mine) WRX's but they are always overpriced but who knows, they may be willing to deal.
BTW -- dont overlook the Wagons at all.... they are just as fast and slightly roomier... plus if you buy a sedan the rear seats are stationary - at best you will have a very small pass thru which sucks balls!

yah, if the reason is just for AWD then just buy a used Impreza or other Subie if thats the case.

Seriously.....buy an 02-03 for 10-12, get a loan for around 4500 above that an drop in an STi 6spd. There's a master swap list on nasioc.com. You can find the 6spd on there as well.
Trust me on this.........If you're going to get one, get a strong tranny with it. This way you will be worry free when you start slapping parts on. Cause you WILL end up with a bigger turbo.

sell the Coug as well... you will lose all interest after you get a turbo awd anything - take it from us the past Cougar/Contour owners.
I second Micah - especially if your going to beat on it at all... nothing is bulletproof and if you need to later upgrade to the STi 6-Speed its going to cost some money you may not have thought after earlier.

Ouch $4500 to swap in a trans that should have been there to begin with:banghead: Im glad our trannys are cheap to fix.

Yeah, it's a drivetrain that can handle a s#it ton of hp......Big Valley has 820awhp, run low 9's, with a stock tranny, upgraded clutch, and flywheel...it's a daily driver:rofl:
So 4500 is a good deal if you ask me. That's also not just the trans....axels, clutch/flywheel, shifter linkage, rear diff(R180), driveshaft, DCCD center diff/controller/harness, and usually with rear brembos. Everything you need:)
That's also for low miles......you can find an 04-05 with more miles anywhere from 3 to 4 grand.
Well worth it when you want more power(400+awhp)

also keep in mind that building your own STi is a crap load cheaper than paying the additional 10k+ for an STi when you are shopping WRX vs STi
