I'll try to make it short. About 6 months ago my fuel line sprung a leak. I go to replace and and find my fuel rail is ghetto rigg'd to hell from the previous owner. He just jb welded a fitting to the rail...So I know I have to replace the rail or at least get it welded. Thing is I bought a new car so I just cancelled the insuance on the cougar and let it sit. Well now its getting close to winter and I need my cougar back. It's been like I said about 6 months. I decided to just weld the fuel rail to a nipple fitting and then clamp a fuel line to it and it works just fine. I put the fuel rail on and go to turn it on and expect it to not start too well because it has been 6 or more months and the car already had a pretty ****ty coil pack. So I go to start it and it doesn't start. Well it starts but it doesnt run worth ****. The car wont stay running unless I hold down the pedal a little and even then it sounds like a ****ty sounding sti. After listening to it miss for a while I decide to stop because it wasnt getting any better and it was making a lot of weird noises. (The day the fuel line started leaking was the day I changed the oil) I go and pull the plugs and they are fuel foweld (SP) So I do the best I can to clean them off a bit. I put them back in and try again. The car ran better that time. Though after I turned the car off (More like let it stall) I looked underneath to see if I was leaking anything (I'm showing a CEL but I can't pull the codes) And guess what I see. My front exhaust manifold is glowing. I stop for the night and then the next day I go and buy some new plugs because the others were **** and some new oil because I know mine has some gas in it from the smell. The oil that comes out smells a little of gasoline and I put the new stuff in and I popped the new plugs in and the same thing happens. The car runs like **** and after a while the manifold starts glowing. I want to either fix it or have it just blow up because its really getting annoying since I've tried pretty much everything I can think of.

If anyone has any idea what my problem could be let me know because I'm going to need a car when the snow starts coming :(

I think it is a 3L, he got "Nafunu'd" I think. (Nafunu-something was the s/n of the guy who built it and ghetto-rigged practically everything despite everyone telling him not to).

It was 10ktgold who sold him the car, not nafunu.

well a new fuel rail is pry a must and then start pulling codes and get it fixed

The car is a 3L and 10kt is the one I got it from. I've had the motor out probably 3 or 4 times and have had tons of problems where the car/motor was ghetto rigg'd. And with the fuel rail I reall don't think it is the problem. It worked fine before the fuel line was leaking and I had it welded and I dont see how it could not be working. And I did look into a new one but for $182 I'd rather not. I'm going to be hitting up some local junkyards too look around.

If anyone has a fuel rail for a escape 3L hit me up. Thanks

Brent

I'm thinking the same thing. From all my experiences glowing manifolds mean lean as hell. Thing is fire balls out the exhaust almost always mean too much fuel. Thats the main thing thats confusing me now. The fireballs out the exhaust remind me of a ****ty tuned turbo car with huge injectors that dump a **** load of fuel. Only on down revs too.

glowing manifolds often point to clogged cats...

Nafunu bought his 3L from blackcoog.

I wouldn't trust a getto rig fuel rail at all. That crap could leak out and cause a fire. It kinda sounds like some of the JB weld broke off and caused the fuel rail to get stopped up or possibly in the injectors.

Didn't you trade 10kt for a civic or something?

Ditto, specially since they have a tendancy to do that anyhow.

Time for headers or a good gutting if you ask me.

Yeah, I would gut those precats NOW! and maybe remove the main cat and check to see if anything is stuck in there, too... Chances are some of the stuff clogging the front precat might have gotten into the main cat too...

I have an 04 Taurus 3L fuel rail and injectors if you want them, send me a PM...
I'll check the condition of the rail and make sure it still has everything it is supposed to have...

Yep, And the rail is clean. I had the thing welded. No more JB weld. Though the rail still isn't too good.

And with the cat. I was thinking that too. Because it seems like its just clogged up or something. Fire balls and glowing manis are too good for a cat. I'm going to take it off and see if I can see anything.

No I have the stock 3L headers now. I had msds a while back but I got screwed on that deal too. They started leaking and I took them off. I'll check them out though.

I did some searching and 10ktgold was talking about using 24lb injectors in the car. I wasn't sure if he was talking about the injectors that came with that 3.0 or if he purchased some real 24# injectors that matched the square style injector clips on a return style Cougar.

Light blue 3.0 return injectors are 24# (square clip) <---pre 1999
Tan Stock 3.0 returnless injectors are 21# (oval clip)
Tan Stock cougar injectors 17lb (oval= returnless, square=return)

You should look at the clips to find out what kind of injectors you need first.

Let me know if you have a return or returnless fuel system too, because i will throw in a set fo 21# injectors with that fuel rail too...

Send me another PM!! :)
