Ive done some research but because of the type of car, Ive come up blank. Will the cougar headers fit a 3.0 x-type. I guessed that it would considering that they fit in 3.0 swap applications on the cougar. assuming that the block is very similar in form(minus vvt and some other components) I figured they would work

Isn't the engine facing the other direction?

No ... IIRC, the Lincoln LS and the Jaguar S-Type are the only 3L applications where the engine is longitudinally mounted. All other 3L applications are transversely mounted.

The engine bay in the X-type is significantly different and the exhaust routing is also different because of the driveshaft. If they did fit you would need a custom y-pipe but I doubt you'd be lucky enough for them to bolt right up. As in the Cougar/Contours there are precats in the stock exhaust manifolds so it would pop a check engine light if the exhaust manifolds were replaced with headers.

When will people figure out that Cougar/Contour headers fit Cougars? Is that so difficult?
If one more yo-yo tries to suggest that V6 Probe headers or whatever crackpot thing they dream up "might bolt right up", I'm gonna hurl.
Bottom line - this engine bay is SO TIGHT, if a part isn't designed PERFECTLY and EXACTLY for this application - IT AIN'T GONNA FIT.

ya well at least this question involves a comparison between the same engine.

Reread that guys. He's asking will Cougar/Contour headers work on a Jaguar, not the other way around...

That is exactly what he said...so my thoughts would be that it would, I do not see any noticeable difference, also on Nautilus web site it talks about the Mazda six headers, which are the same as the cougar ones, and of course the Mazda six is basically the same as the Jaguar....so I guess they all fit one another...oh the joys of one world car manufacturer....
Now of course there may be peripheral bits that may cause some difficulties in fitting the headers, but have no idea in that area, maybe someone else can comment...

Actually the rear Mazda 6 header is significantly different. My response stays the same. I read the question and understood that he what he wanted to put Cougar/Contour headers on an X-type. It's still a long shot. The Ford Taurus/Sable has a 3L and they won't fit in that application. You'd think if it would fit on any car it would be the Taurus/Sable.

I thought that the headers would work on the 3L tarus that people put in the cougar. If not then do that fit on the tribute/ escape motor

OK, jesus. Contour/Cougar headers will fit the 3L blocks. They will not work in the other platforms engine bays though.

Hey man, part of the fun of this hobby is making something work that was never intended. However, there is often spatial limitations that can only be overcome with experience/fabrication/and the mighty $. If your seriously interested in custom headers and mid pipes Scott Payne @ SNS Performacne in Crystal builds very nice custom headers. MSDS also does customs form may hard to find vehicles. Either choice may be albe to fab up something at home in your chassis. and stop the :banghead:

Watch your language...
but that was my point...they should fit...and agree totally that the engine bays may end up causing a few issues.
Having had my custom headers for a year now, I am ever so happy I spent the extra money, they work a treat.......however over in NA there are so many options with headers already available that have proven performance gains I would say that justifying the expense on a custom job must get a little difficult. However I will say it is a proven fact the longer primaries than the msds are superior....;)
But we will leave that issue alone...

Your right I was thinking that because when people do the 3.0 swaps from what i gathered was that they're using the same headers. I never thought about the actual application just the engine itself. I figured cougar space is tight so is the jag, it might work. I never saw the underside of my jag so i couldnt consider how the y-pipe might play into this. It was the same deal when i got my cougar, I came here researched then asked questions. Thats all i was doing...gathering information. It sounded like a stretch but I would have never known if i didnt ask.

I owned an X-type for a while and I went over the underbody quite a bit. The rear header won't fit because of the AWD system. That header is routed differently.

Nail in the coffin. ah well Ill have to have to find another way to put a lil more umph into this thing. I saw the arden exhaust, its like $1500. and i heard that the intake wasn't that good.

Anything Arden is way over priced and you may have to pay for overseas shipping unless they found a US dealer. I'd say make your own intake out of piping. Try to find a way to run it into the fender well or behind the bumper. You could always gut the cats in the exhaust manifolds. Then when you have them off see if you could modify a set of MSDS headers to work.

Guys, I was told that the ST220 Mondeo now uses the X-Type headers as the X-Type are more efficient. BTW I work for Jaguar and can confirm that when I have been looking at the CAD, although the headers occupy the same space as Contour's / Cougar's the y pipe is slightly different as are the mounting points to the main exhaust - but they are teasingly close and wouldn't take too much to get them to work, although some exhaust fabrication would be required. The main differences are where the breaks are for everything, although the routing is very similar

Always great to have someone who works with the cars on here, a big welcome Palti
