I got a 2001 Mercury Cougar Zn
70,800 miles (114,000km)
1 owner, dealership serviced
moonroof
for $6,800
Did I make a good choice?
It seemed alright, I wanted a reliable and stylish car. The 2001 Cougars got good reviews on the net.
Are there any certain problems I should be expecting with the car?

heh cute name
well it is a 2001 i find the price a bit high. i got a 2000 v6 for 5,800 with only 45,000 miles on it but since u got dealership serviced you can take advantage of that if anything breaks

the first owner only had it serviced at the dealership... I have no warranty left.
And its Canadian dollars.
I didnt really see any other cougars this price around here with KM this low.
(when did you get yours?)
i got mines off a dealership in new jersey they very good cars only thing to worrie about is the sunroof tracks (might break) and alternator

It was kept very clean and everything.
It was lady driven and all.
Kept in a Garage.

mtx or atx?
if its in really good shape thats not bad, a bit on the high side but not unreasonable from a dealer.
lady driven doesnt really mean anything. i know some womenz that drive the piss outta their cars

at 6,800 CAD you got a great deal. Most here go for around 7-9K. Welcome to the forums, I see you posted in Ontario, where are you from?

Sounds ok for an 01 with less than 75k miles. Plus it is a ZN, so you have a few more cool things. Auto or Manual?
Wond3r
10-09-2007, 11:40 PM
Its automatic.
(Whats atx or mtx?)
I'm in the K/W area of Ontario... between Toronto and London.
And it wasnt a dealer, it was a private sale, but she always took it to the dealer to be serviced... I'm assuming she took it to Ford.

Manual TransaXle
Does that have anything to do with it being automatic transmission? lol, I have a ATX?
(Can't drive manual, so auto was a better choice)

Yes you have a ATX
ATX = Automatic
MTX = Manual

I picked my 99 mtx up about 3 years ago from a Ford dealership with 85,000km. I believe I paid around $8,000 Cdn. with a 2 year 40,000km warrenty. Of coarse nothing broke until the warrenty was up. I think you got a pretty good deal on the car, to bad it's not MTX, then I'd be jealus.

forget the amount you paid for it because now you own the car so it doesn't matter. check if the re-call was done on the fuel pump from a ford dealer, doesn't matter which one you call up. than search our forum for the IMRC Relocation. Then start the typical performance mods if you want. See Ya

i got mine in late 99 because it had been sitting on the lot for a while and they lowered the price big time, i think they took off $6,000 from the price sothey could make way for the 00's

Yup. Apparently when you get into a minor fender bender, they shred like dollar-store tin foil. Good looking cars, though.

Tell that to Yofavcracka, who rolled his off a cliff and walked away unscathed.

i think i paid 8G's for mine with 62k on the dash mtx and bald tires. The recall wasn't performed. but that was about it. I knew about the recall to research and everything. so the same day i drove it off the lot i took it to ford directly and got it replaced. but now im at 99,500 ABOUT to be in the 100k club. and its awesome

We bought the 99 in late 1998 and the 00 in early 2000 so I've had 2 of them for quite some time and just recently picked up the 3rd. All 3 have been paid off since the day we got them.
I love these cars and unless they're smashed beyond repair I'll probibly never give them up..... at least not the first 2.
Good choice with the Cougar Wond3r and if you utilize the search function on the forums you should find almost anything you need.
