Tailight Cover Legal?

I was wondering if anyone knew if Taillight covers were legal in milwaukee?. I want that to be my first cheap mod, besides getting my Crystal side markers lol. But I wont bother if its Illegal =/.

As long as they are still visibly red, and and the signals are amber its not illegal

I dont plan on tinting my Tailights at all, so yeah they will be red. And by Amber, your talking about the sidemarkers right? :P

Your sidemarkers will still "flash" an amber color, because that's the color of the bulbs, amber. So you don't have to worry about anything being illegal as far as those go.

For the taillight covers...you'll be fine. Your brake lights will still be visible along with your turn signals and reverse lights.

I read the rear light laws for Wisconsin in their entirety a long time ago and it basically just says as long as you're emitting unobstructed light of the correct colors, you're good. But there's some stupid law too that ANY aftermarket anything is illegal. Cops only bother to learn that one. But in court it's conflicting laws and you could probably get off since the more specific one says it's legal. I'm still considering putting red and amber neons under my rear bumper on the same circuits cuz apparently that's legal too lol.

I lived in Milwaukee this summer and had tail light covers and never had any problems with cops. I got hit and run while I was there and even asked the cop who did the report about the covers and he said they are legal because they don't block the turn signal, reverse, or brake light.

Hey Nick. What about he covering of the reflective surface? Just asking because I know that was a concern of the headlight covers as well. At least here in Ca.

347.16 Clearance lamps and reflectors. (1) No person
shall operate on a highway during hours of darkness any vehicle,
except automobiles, having a width at any part in excess of 80
inches unless such vehicle is equipped with:
(a) Two clearance lamps mounted on the front of the vehicle
so as to be visible from the front; and
(b) Two clearance lamps mounted on the rear of the vehicle so
as to be visible from the rear; and
(c) Two reflectors mounted on the rear of the vehicle in such
a manner as to indicate as nearly as possible the extreme width of
the vehicle.
(2) No person shall operate any of the following vehicles on
a highway during hours of darkness unless such vehicles are
equipped as indicated:
(a) Every truck tractor shall carry on the front 2 clearance
lamps, one at each side.
(b) Every trailer or semitrailer shall carry on the rear 2 reflectors,
one on each side.
(3) Reflectorized material extending across the full width of
the vehicle and otherwise meeting the mounting and visibility
specifications for reflectors may be used in lieu of the reflectors
required by this section.

I think thats basically the law in Missouri also. Yet when i was pulled over not one cop has even brought them up. Even the one that asked if i was running nitrous, just because i dont have back seats in.

Anyway thats the consensus I'm hearing, they are borderline illegal in most states but its not something cops either notice on our car, or just dont care about.

Though i have heard of some people getting into trouble over nightshading, but thats a whole nother story.
