Will the 3.0L cams fit/work in a 2.5L?

They'll fit.
Will they have a benefit? Doubt it since the port style has changed. Cams are designed around the ports capabilities. Rule of thumb; split port cams in a split port, shared cams in a shared port.

Please read the other thread that Spook started about manifolds as I just covered what happens when you retrofit 3L cams into a 2.5L.

Actually the thrust portion of the cam will not fit because without modifications because it is thicker on the 3L cams than on the older 2.5L cams.
You have to machine out the thrust bearing portions on the #1,#5 cam caps (The ones in the front of each cam) in order to clear the new cams thrust surfaces.
I did this earlier this year and the results were quite disapointing.
