I've done some research about swapping engines from a 2.5 cougar to a 3.0 mazda. I've heard the only one that works is the 3.0 duratec but I found an engine that says 3.0 tcv. is that the same as the duratec or is that different. And will it work thank you.

tcv? are you referring to variable valve timing. if so definitely no.
lets make it really easy. work off of the list of known engines that work, save yourself the heartache.

thank you very much for the respond. I know that with the variable timing that I have to change all the electronics and the 3.0 duratec froma mazda is one that works I've read but are all the 3.0s from mazdas duratecs, or are there other forms of engines from the mazda 6's that wont work. thank you for your help

The only engines that will work are non VVT 3L engines. VVT is not compatible with our cars and is too costly to make it compatible. Stick with Taurus, Sable and Escape engines. Almost everything else has VVT which is also why they have slightly higher power outputs. Put a supercharger on a the 3L if you want more power.

unless you want to and you can say your the first and have the honour of showing everyone how to do it. But its not worth it.

BTW I'm in Minnesota so check our my site: 3L Duratec (http://www.3LDuratec.com) for 3L engines. I could build and install one for you.

those engines are a bit to expensive for me I'm looking at getting a tarus/escape engine but would you install one of those, and how much would that cost about.

The engines on the site are Taurus and Sable engines, nothing else will work. The 3L's do not bolt in which is why there is extra cost. I'm not sure why people get the idea that they bolt right in. The 3L's no matter which one you go with will require quite a few modifications for install.

the VCT on the mazda CAN be made to work on our cars with an auxiliary controller until.
Otherwise they could be made to be stationary and act like a normal ovalport engine. If you swap the whole harness and pcm into your car from the mazda or a comparable ford then you can use it but thats big $ unless you get a wreck.

There are numerous posts devoted to the modifications needed in the 3L sections. The modifications depend on the 3L you go with (year and vehical). All need to have the main mount between the heads modified unless you pull a head to install it. Ears on the block need to be modified for brackets to bolt up. Sensor holes may need to be tapped depending on the year of your vehical. If you go with a full 3L you need to build a custom fuel rail, egr tube, throttle body bracket, and determine how to modify your vacuum lines to fit. Some 3L's require all the 2.5L covers and some require only some of the 2.5L covers. The list goes on...
If you are a good mechanic and have the down time for your car you could figure it out. Don't think of it as a straight swap anyone can do in there garage in a weekend. You'll end up dumping money into an engine and find out later you need to pay someone else to get it to work.
