View Full Version : Warranties are good things, but not if I want to mod...what's not gonna void it?

Ok, on my last car, I would've voided my warranty after owning it for about 20min, but thank god it's warranty ran out already. I'm taking over my brother's cougar, as I have posted before. I'm ordering a bunch of things for the car, but what to know what else won't void the warranty. Here's my list of things.

-Exhaust - bassani or Yodude, not sure yet
-SHO Shop y-pipe
-SCA intake pipe (have KKM already)
-Pro Flow MAF w/optimiser to rid myself of the CEL that may occur

Now, what other power adders can I add...The MAF and intake I can remove when being brought in for service, and the exhaust parts will not void any warranty, since it's just bolted up. Will the SVT TB void warranty? I want to do the MSDS headers, but can't cause that'll void it right away. I was thinking of getting a Short Throw Shifter (not a power adder, but could help edge out an equally powered car). I want a Kaminari Carbon fiber hood, which I'll probably get anyway, but again, no real power, just saving some weight, and cooling the engine bay. I also wanted to get a lightened flywheel, and LSD but that'll probably cause problems. What about the motor mounts from sp motorsports, would they void it?

Any other parts that I can get some more power from that can either be removed within a few minutes, or just won't void the warranty? Thanks guys. I'm ordering everything by the end of next week, so I'm doing my shopping now. After selling my other car, and all the parts, I have a few dollars to spend i/expressions/happy.gif

Good stuff, man. Be warned that the y-pipe will void your emissions warrantee just as easily as headers will. Except headers do more i/expressions/smile.gif

FYI no mod will void your warranty unless it causes a problem that the dealer car trace DIRECTLY back to it. If the dealer says it will...its BS

Technically you are correct Rockford, but you all know that if you have even a KKM intake in their, they can say "your tranny blew up do to the added hp from that INtake" which we all know is crap.

I'm not worried about the emmissions warranty...just the drivetrain part (engine and tranny). If an 02 goes, then the warranty should cover it, but I don't need any hassles having them tell me I lost my warranty. My parents got the extended warranty on the car before it was actually mine, they thought they were being nice, cause it could save me money, which it could...but honestly, as things go I just replace them with better parts. So here's my list or parts now...

-Proflow MAF w/ optimiser
-SVT TB
-SCA intake pipe (have KKM filter already)
-B&M STS
-SHO Shop Y-pipe
-Bassani Exhaust
-Kaminari Carbon Fiber hood

I'm gonna be ordering all the parts this week. Yes all of them. I sorta got the cougar unexpectedly, and need to have to somewhat modded if I want to hit the track, or some car shows.
