These rules might change for local towns/cities, but I believe these would carry through out the state.

I chatted with an IMPD Officer (Indianapolis Metropolitan) just this last weekend and asked him about some legal lighting issues I was informed about when looking to buy blue light bulbs for clear side markers. Basically you can't use Red, Blue, or Green in any external lighting, including under body, unless done for show purposes off the roadways. These colors are reserved for emergence personnel only. You should be able to pull off blue lighting in the interior of the vehicle as long as no of the lighting is projected behind or in front of the vehicle. So basically, you can't put anything in the upper half of the vehicle that would be one of those three colors. Purple, yellow, and white are basically your only colors of choice on exterior lighting goes that is visible by everyone.

I was asking due to the fact that I was going to use blue light bulbs in clear side markers and was informed by the person at AutoZone that was illegal in the state of Indiana to have blue lights on the exterior of your vehicle. So, on the way home, I stopped next to a cop that was sitting on the side of the road and asked him. He said it was in a gray area and would be a 50/50 chance that you might get pulled over if a cop had seen it being used. Their is no distinct ruling, according to his cheat book that contains the short hand version of that particular law ruling. If you use clear and clear for side markers and get pulled over for it, explain the following and you should not get a ticket: "The old Lincoln town cars used to use white lights on the side of the vehicle so when the turn signal was used on that side of the vehicle, the light would come on and show the roadway to the right or left so you didn't run over the curb." The cop said that would be the understanding to why clear/clear is a legal color for a side marker.

Just depends on your area/state laws and the cops. Also know that State Troopers in any given state might enforce the laws differently than the local authorities that could pull you over in the exact same spot.

Ya i know im trolling in Indy land ..... and i think your right about those colors for your state. Where as others like Missouri ... green is perfectly fine. Just depends on the area. Ive even heard of one city where yellow was illegal but amber was legal /boggle i thought it was pretty much the same thing

Those laws aren't new. Those colors you referred to are emergency colors and can get you pulled over much faster than a non E color. Depends on the agency on how it gets enforced. But definately not new.

Was not saying they were new, just sort of putting them here in the Indiana section for anyone who wants to do such lighting and be legal about it. Was sort of just an informational thread to put the information out there.

I have blue underbody led's. I talked to my city's police chief and he said it's all kinda iffy. He told me that if he saw me using my blue underbody's while driving, he would not pull me over as long as the entire bulbs were concealed and only the glow from them was visible. However he did say that some cops would pull me over, it just depends on if they feel like it or not I guess. Red, blue, green, and I've even heard that white underbody's can get you pulled over. Any red or blue lights visible in your window (red glowing fuzzy dice) will get you pulled over.

Purple is a safe choice along with multi-color underbody's.

But you can go with any color as long as it is for off-road use / car shows / etc. and NOT on the road driving.

If you want a good, cheap place to buy neons/led's, THIS (http://myworld.ebay.com/carxtc)is a good place. I bought my blue underbody led's from them and it was exactly as described. No dotting what-so-ever. Even if you place the bulbs directly on the ground. And they have awesome service. I ordered multiple things from them at the same time and paid in one payment. They didn't recognize that i purchased multiple things and I didn't recieve all the stuff. I called them and explained and they had the rest of my stuff shipped out that night plus they threw in some extra goodies! Awesome place.

Whitecougar,

I live in south KC in the Terrace Lake area. Cops overhere are laid back and pretty cool. I try to stay out of Grandview, Lees Summit, Lake Lotawana, and Raytown. Cops in those four areas have nothing better to do then write tickets or pull you over for stupid stuff. I had one in Lake Lotawana in front of me pull of the road, get behind me, and then pull me over because my car didn't have a front plate.

my 85 vette has a feature like that where a light will turn on and stay lit so that you can see the curb
