Often when I start my car, my gauges reset. Not every time but sometimes. Also my keyless entry stopped working a while back, and resently it has started working again. Another weird thing is when I turn off my car sometimes the radio stays on until I put my key back in the ignition and turn it off again. There is no battery light on or blinking. I cleaned the corrosion off my battery terminals a couple months back and sprayed cleaner on it, and the terminals still look clean. I am not sure what to think, or what to do on this subject. My headlights and overhead lights dim sometimes and the more power I give my car the more powerful the lights are, for example in higher RPMs. From research it seems it could be the alternator and I have never replaced the alternator or as far as I know dont think the owners previous to me have replaced it, but the lights dimming and such have happened since I have owned the car for about a year or more. The radio and gauges resetting just started a couple of weeks ago. What should I do to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Peter

I had the same problem with the guages resetting and with the CD Player staying on and it turned out that about a month after it happening on/off my battery was completely fried. Have autozone or somewhere check your battery and see where your left after that.

Check your battery as Matt stated. Your alternator could be fine. But if you're still running the stock battery its a good chance it needs to be changed.

Supposedly the owner before me replaced the battery about 2 years ago. When I started having trouble with my car turning off while driving and not starting I checked the battery and it had a lot of corrosion which I cleaned and sprayed. I believe the battery is a lot older than 2 years, so that may be the problem, I will check it out.

Thanks,
Peter

My money is on the battery had a customer couple months back that was pissed because everytime they started the car the radio would reset. Well it turned out that everytime they started the car the memory voltage would drop down to like 4 or 6 volts and everything in the car would reset.

Well my car as been idling b/t 0-500 instead of from 500-1000 lately, that has nothing to do with the battery or anything electical does it?
