Great condition, zero mods (wife's car). Maintained with Motorcraft filters, no problems since replacement of some sort of EGR sensor that triggered CEL.

One chip in paint, size of a pencil eraser. Ventus tires have approx. 90% tread.

**UPDATE**The transmission died, it needs a replacement trans per the dealer. We were quoted $3400 by the dealer to repair this car, which includes a remanufactured trans and warranty. My wife and I are SO upset, we just want to get rid of the car.
For a carefully maintained, never modded car to just drop a transmission at 70K miles is simply unacceptable, we will never, never, EVER buy a Ford/Lincoln/Merc/Jag/Mazda/Rover or whatever. Please, please make us an offer. The seats, engine, etc. are in great shape.

Same thing happened to me, and it was 2100 total. I had it done at Village auto in Clemmons. I DO NOT recommend them, but that was the price.

Yeah, we talked to a couple of independent garages and they quoted a priced in that range, however I don't really trust any of them to do a good job. It sounds like the dealership is the only game in town if I actually wanted to keep the car, but there is no way that I would spend that much money.

And no, the Corvette is not for sale, the front of the engine is in a million pieces as it's undergoing a cam swap. Or it WAS undergoing a cam swap, since the cougar died, my wife drives my Infiniti, which means I have to put everything back together as is on the Corvette just to have something to drive.

Anyway, I just want to get rid of this piece of garbage and I would be willing to listen to any offer.

I hope you don't work in sales. :ugh:

I would expect that if you pay for the repair yourself or sell it needing repair, either way you will be down the cost of the trans repair/replace.

not to mention, you posted over a year ago in another forum that you were having problems keeping up with paying for repair costs on your "piece-of-garbage daily drivers ('01 Merc Cougar and '97 Dodge Avenger)". Thought you said it was in great condition

Too bad your not closer...I would be interested. Unfortunately shipping to MN would be a you know what. However, there is a guy in Fredericksburg, VA (James) co is called Pro Motion Tuning. He buys alot of these cars and also stocks an insane amount of parts. I order most of my off the shelf new stuff from him, service and shipping times are great. He may have parts...may also be interested in purchasing the car... Hope this helps some :banghead:

Id probably be interested if it was closer, but thats a long ass tow. Sounds like a perfect candidate for a MTX swap.

I do think it would be a good candidate, it sounds like there are no problems with the MTX on these cars, plus it's been a decent car except for the transaxle. It would also be good if somebody wants it for the rims, tires, and seats, all of which are in good condition. I'm sorry I referred to it as "garbage", it's just that we're pretty upset about it. We work hard to take care of our cars, keep good maintenance records, etc., and we have NEVER had a car just experience a catastrophic failure with less than 80K on the clock. We're in such a bad situation with this car, even if spend money (practically as much as it's worth) and get a warrantied reman trans installed at the dealer, the type of trans that goes in it has already proved itself unreliable. Obviously, we can't sell it for a decent price or trade it in. We feel TOTALLY stuck with no real solutions. Plus, per our service advisor, NEW transmissions aren't even available, the BEST we could is a warrantied re-man. A warranty doesn't help if it dies again 20K miles later on my way to the airport 1.5 hours before my flight leaves, or if it dies on my wife's way to a meeting for work.

At least we hold a clean title, so we just want it GONE! It totally makes me mad to even look at it. We're already looking into "donating" it for a modest tax credit, which involves having a salvage yard come tow it away. If it's not gone in a couple of weeks, this is what I'm doing.

Thanks Ford/Mazda!!:banghead:
The only good that comes out of this is that we were in the final stages of special ordering a brand new Mercury Mariner when this happened, thank GOD we were able to cancel before we paid for it.

OK, sorry for the rant, I just get upset thinking about it.

I'd like to get $3500, but I'd be willing to listen to any offer. We just had it towed home, so I realize that whoever would buy it will need to have it towed somewhere.

If you just want to sell it, go to a salvage yard and buy a low mileage used tranny with a warranty. It shouldn't cost TOO much to have it swapped, and you can probably find a tranny for $400 or so. Just be sure to be honest about it when you sell the car. car-parts.com is your friend ;)

Regardless of repairing it with a used ATX or convert it to an MTX, man, that ZN is a beautiful car. Here is a local ad where a similar car is listed for $11k!
