So my friend was telling me how a friend with a 2004 v6 mustang atx raced and beat a new charger, so I was really interested in what kind of engine, since my atx can hang right behind his stang... then my friend tod me it was a cop charger... enter teh story!

So my friend pulls up to a light, next to a new charger. The charger was full of dudes, and they drivers made eye contact. My friend began to rev up the stang, and at the light they both take off- hanging together until the speed limit, when the charger hung back and the stang kept on going, until 20mph past limit... then blue lights in the charger turned on, and pulled the stang over. So the cop walks to the stang and asks my friend how he's doing, and my friend mumbles "fine". The cop asked what he was thinking, and he said he wasn't. Then the cop told him that they had him for street racing, initiating a street race, speeding, and reckless driving... he walked back to the charger, talked with the other cops, and then they drove off!!

The moral of the story is, that is a 1 in a million ending, don't race new chargers!

My brother works as a student aid at UB and he gets to drive all the campus police cars to and from the repair shops (what a great job lol)... he said that the Vic’s are faster than the new Chargers...

Have a "kill story" or perhaps just want to ramble about something that happened to you when driving? Post it here!

nothing about cougar related at all in there....o well. the chargers are more intimidating then actually fast.

The title of this thread made me think of this pic I took last weekend of a Charger SRT/8 parked beside my Mustang. It's plate said "HEMMIE". I don't think I'd take on a 425 hp SRT version.

I've toyed around with maybe seeing what I could get for my Cougar and getting a Charger...I love that car, but I'm finding it hard to justify selling a car that is paid off and having a car payment again when I travel 270+ days a year for my job and have a company car....so my Cougar doesn't even get driven.

Thanks. I love the style of the new Mustang and it is a lot of fun to drive; it puts a grin on my face every time I step on the gas...vroom, vrooom. But, we actually prefer some things about our Cougar. The Cougar gets about 3 MPG more than the Mustang, the passenger seat is much easier to fold forward for people to get into the back, and even though the stereo systems look almost identical, the Cougar will play any CD we stick into it but the Mustang is really picky - says 'bad cd' for most; and even though the Mustang is the high-end premium coupe, the computer display doesn't have a thermometer (but the Cougar does).

The Charger makes 340hp compared to the 250ish hp in the Crown Vics, and uses a 5spd auto vs the 4spd auto in the Crown Vics. Our local cops use both the Crown Vics and the Chargers, and the police we work with say the Charger is much faster. I think it's rated for a lower 5 sec 0-60...

Which they prefer to drive is actually up in the air... but it's a cool looking cop car.

Nonetheless... the new Charger R/T and SRT-8 needs a new Transmission... the ones in there, just aren't so fantastic for performance or longevity.

There's cars I've learned to be weary of now living in a state with undercovers. Mostly Crown Vics, Chargers, and Impala's. Sneaky, sneaky.

Just the other day a bright red 2002 Camaro pulled someone over... Nothing at all except the lights gave it away, no antenna's, only the plate, and you have to be fairly close to catch that its permanent

I have my Doubts that an V6 ATX Cougar can Hang with a 04 V6 Stang.

If you pay attention, every single one of those "undercover" cops has a huge spot light on the driver, and sometimes passenger, side of the car. Not that hard to spot this giant shinny piece of metal attached to the car, that sticks out.

They used to run vets up and down 65, 69, and across 70 with nothing visible at all, not even lights, but I think they stopped because they kept getting accused of entrapment as well to the cost of fixing them. This was about 10 years ago.

I'll have to take a close up picture of this undercover charger that lives in the neighbor that attaches to mine down in Indy this weekend when I'm home.

I did too, but then, I hung with him, so who knows

I know what you're talking about, but still. I make sure that I'm not speeding when I see the general cop car sillohuette. I saw a truck get pulled over the other day on 465 going well over 65 in a 45. The only reason I knew it was cop was because I saw him just pull away from being a ticket. People flew by me as I was pacing the car, which I laughed at, and the truck got nailed.

I'll let you know about the auto v6 stang vs a auto v6 coug. My friends got one, we'll line them up sometime. I think he'll win, but who knows. It's not near as slow as it used to be.

the auto transmissions for the stangs arent much slower to be honest.
unless its a pre 99 he'll win.

Look, to be as general as possible, it wasn't a straight line, nothing near a straight line, that is why I hung with him

not true at all. I have seen plenty unmarked cop cars w/o the spotlight
