Yea, I know this is kinda old-school but I'm putting in my CD deck with a 1/2 DIN X-over in the dash.....It fits, with a little room to spare (about 1/2" or so)......

So.....with no kit to do this it must be custom done.....

My installer did a disappointing job at first and put the X-over on top....He's not done but I can tell I'm not going to be happy....

Does anyone have pics of custom installs in the stock location, or any advise?????????

I know it can be done (it's working right now), but I want it to look nicei/expressions/smile.gif...

I thought about using the aftermarket kit (metra) and putting the X-over in the "pocket", but the opening's too tall and just a hair too narrow.......HELP!!!!!!!!(please)

dremmel tool... if the opening is slight too narrow you could just dremmel it out a little... i would remove the entire pocket off the metra kit and just widen the opening a little, you won't need an actual pocket you just neet a slot... then when done you could try using some body filler or even bondo to make it smooth, then paint it any color you like... i'm actually going to be doing this exact thing also....

Cool!!!!!...I am not alone then....I'm exploring all options, so pics would be helpful....

I may just leave the metra kit alone and put the X-over in the glove box, since I rarely mess with it.....

Anyone else?

Thanks, puck....

ChenZhen,

How about getting a piece of black ABS plastic or a piece of lexan and spraying it black from the back. Cut the plastic to fit exactly over the pocket completely and snugly inside the factory radio opening in the console. Then use a drill to start a pilot hole and a keyhole saw or a jig saw to cut a rectangular opening centered in the plastic that will fit the 1/2 DIN crossover. Now modify the radio kit pocket by trimming out the sides enough to get the crossover to slide in place. Put the radio kit back into the dash. Install the crossover into the pocket area with the ABS plastic already framing the front part of the crossover. Use some hot glue or double sided tape to secure the ABS plastic or lexan to the top and bottom edges of the pocket. You will probably want to use some backstrap material to secure the rear of the crossover. If you use clear lexan, you could paint it any color at all from the back. Black was just a suggestion.

Peace,
Keane

Our installers keep ABS on hand, but if I want lexan I'll have to find some...but I like the idea...

Right now the x-over and deck are mounted in the dash with no trim, so it looks real "ghetto", but at least it works (finally)....I'll probably relocate the x-over to the glove box, since I really don't have the tools to do it myself, and the installers at my store (where I get a discount) are kinda jerks. It's OK, 'cause I really didn't mess with it too much in my old car...

BTW---I think I'll be the only NECO member who has custom illumination in their deck.....I had my trusty tech change it to green, to match the dash. I'll try to get some quality pics....it's real cool......i/expressions/smile.gif

Thanks for everything....

THE EASIEST AND NICEST WAY

here's a tip, i was one of the first with a cougar, and one of first to do a stereo in it...long before NECO was around. And back in "those days" there were no kits for a cougar, but i did find that if you got the ranger kit which has a hold for a din chasis and an eq on it, and rounded off the edges, it fits perfectly!!!

WOW!!!!!!

Thanks everlast.........i/expressions/smile.gif

You wouldn't happen to know the Metra part #, would you (or anyone)?

Everlast was right, the kit worked perfectly...it is the metra kit #99-5600 and all you have to do is round the edges on the top....

It looks great, I'll post pics on my site when I get a chance...i/expressions/smile.gif
