Make sure you read it ALL this time, there are some important items!!

Ok, here is is people, the final details for the big Hamillfest, it's coming fast.....remember the dates! September 7th, 8th, and 9th!!

I want you all to know that the camp site we use is no longer doing weekenders and they are shifting to an all trailer park only environment. They had allot of issues with weekenders stealing property of people who have trailers, trashing trees, trashing sites, and generally leaving cans and garbage all over the place.HOWEVER since I have a standing reputation of 20 years here, and we have camped there for 2-3 years without difficulty, they are allowing us to continue to camp there for as long as we would like, provided we continue to have the same courtesy and respect for the people and the area we are camping in.

In past years I have had issues collecting cash for the site rentals etc, not so much on our behalf, but more so on trying to figure out sites vs.. people, cars vs.. sites, etc etc. This year I simplified it....we came to an agreement of $10 per person plus tax per day/night. So basically $11.50 per day/night per person. So for 2 people for the 3 day period (staying Friday and Saturday night) you are looking at $46.

When do we meet?

I would like everyone to meet at Silver birches no later than 1-2pm on Friday. If you are going to be later than this please let me know so that I can have a card ready for you at the gate.

If you are interested in coming to London on Thursday night, please send me a PM and you can crash at my place free of charge. Typically we have a few drinks and hang out. Directions will be provided upon request.

What are we doing?

Friday - meet up at the site, unload cars, if you want to race, we go to the track, if not, you can stay behind and hang out at the campsite or come to Grand Bend for spectating, or just hit the arcade on the main strip. The sunset is the best you will ever see at the beach!

Saturday - go to the Liquor store for more booze, have breakfast, hit the beach (don't forget your towels and bathing suit). If there is enough interest, hit the drive in that night after the Bend, or just hang out. It's a beach day! We also do the group photos, wash the cars up, and hang out Saturday.

Sunday - Pack for home, last year a bunch of us went to the flea market, had lunch, and then headed home.

What are the costs that are associated?

Camping (Friday/Saturday night):$11.50 per person, per day/night. Most you'd pay at Hamillfest for one person is $23 for the whole weekend. The website is here (http://silverbirches.lambtonshores.com/) for directions.

Racing (Friday night):$20 for entry for car and driver, passengers and spectators is $5. For the entry fee you get unlimited runs, test and tune. If you don't want to race, you do not have to. The website is here (http://www.grandbendmotorplex.com/rental-testing/test-tune.html)

Drive in (Saturday night): $8 per person (movies are currently T.B.A. but I suspect we could be looking at 2-3 movies) the website is here (http://www.starlitedriveintheatre.com/GrandBend.html)

Food (Mainly Saturday/Sunday) Dinner will be provided on Friday night FREE OF CHARGE. On the menu will be hamburgers, hotdogs, potato chips, macaroni salad and potato salad. If you want steak, bring it with you. Beverages (soda/pop/water) will also be provided. For the remainder of the weekend I would expect to pay around $50-$60 per person. (I am assuming $15-20 per meal, which can be high)

Total cost for the entire weekend, including food, racing, drive in, $60 for food.....$111. Not bad for 3 days!

Donations/other costs?

Typically I ask for donations at Hamillfest, don't be alarmed, it's totally optional. The reason I ask for them is there are many other costs affiliated. Food for Friday + chips and condiments etc, beverages (excluding alcohol), purchase of wood (we burned 4-6 wheel barrows full of wood last year alone), cost of hydro for the main "party" site, and the potential cost of hall rental which is supplied to us in the event of rain for our BBQ Friday night and Saturday (please note I only pay for this if I need to).

Other costs, mini golfing in the bend, car wash for photo's on the beach, gas, alcohol, whatever you buy.

What if I get lost?

Call my cell....if you don't have the number, pm me.

Anything else, ask here! There are at least 12 active members that have been to at least 2-3 Hamillfests!

This is the good ol Hamill homestead that we all know and love? not the appartment complex (aka moon-2)? :)

depends on how many people are staying, if it's only a few, we'll leave the cars at my dads and crash at the condo....if more than a few, we'll invade the house.

great info, thanks Dan. We'll be there as always. Not sure how early we can get there on Friday as some people do work during the week but we'll know more as it gets closer.

Looking forward to it as always! Since the weather has alternated from hot to cold and back each year, we're owed good weather this time.

30*C would be nice if it came about on the weekends rather then on the weekdays when I'm dressed for work. :banghead:

At least on the weekends I'm either on the dock and can jump into the lake, or catching the wind on my bike.

Edit: So much for global warming.

Lets keep this on topic, if you want to discuss the weather for the current week, let's do it in the chat. I'll be moving stuff shortly. This post is for info only, and any suggestions. Fact over fiction, we have NEVER had a Hamillfest that was spoiled by weather. Even when it has rained, it stopped when it was time to do stuff. In 5-6 years the weather has co-operated that weekend despite MANY years where it has been hurricanes, tornadoes, and whatever else going on in the same weather band we share.

It's been warm lately. Up around 30 (85ish) every day plus humidity. It can hit well over 35 (95ish) with humidity in the middle of the day.

Evenings have been a little cooler. I would pack jeans and a sweater. I don't think you'll need much more than that. It's not that cold.

Apparently Mike has amnesia from last year... it was freezing ballz during the nights!
and didn't you and Maya NOT have a sleeping bag?

I plan to pack 1 pair of clothes for a 'hot' day, and a snowsuit parka like Kenny from Southpark for the night.

That was last year.

He asked what it was like this year. So far, it's been warm. What will it be like in 2 weeks? I couldn't even begin to guess.

I'm going to bring jeans and a sweater for at night... and we're not going to forget a sleeping bag this year! ;)

Just keep an eye on the weathernetwork online...It has a 7 day long range forecast, which gives plenty of time to strategise your packing needs. ;)

No it's the same here, they can only predict what they can see. They never get it accurate for more than 24hrs.

Got that right. Pack for this. Today is a perfect example. It was 52*f when I got out of bed, 61*f when I left for work, and they're calling for a high of 87*f during the day with a low of 52*f overnight.
