So this morning at work I'm slaveing away try to get stuff done. I say to one of our part-time summer working kid "What's new?". He says "well, my tire flew off my truck this morning on my way to work". I couldn't help myself, had to laugh a bit, it was kinda funny cause if I didn't ask, he wouldn't have said anything all day about it (He's just really quite, but a super nice kid though). He then told me it was the drivers side rear wheel, the bolts snapped while he was doing 85km/h down a staight stretch of paved country road. I asked if the wheel hit anything, he replies nope, it just rolled right by me, down the road and into the ditch. I say "well atleast no one was hurt and no one elses vehicles were damaged". Then the real bad news came out "although my wheel didn't hit anything, one my bolts/lugs smashed a dudes windshield when it dicided it didn't want to be a part of my truck anymore". He told me the dude was totally pissed at him. Like he knew this would happen! I don't agree with getting mad a someone in an situation like this. The truck isn't in that bad of shape, it's a 94 F150. If he knew something wasn't right, he would have gotten it checked out.

Yeah, a freak incident over 2 years ago (in my 240SX, not the Cougar). I still have no idea exactly what caused it, but I'm guessing the previous owner had the lug nuts impacted on and it weakened the studs. I was the poor innocent moron who bought the POS and decided to do 80mph down the freeway (in a 75mph zone, I should mention).

As to what happened with this guy and his truck? I have no idea. Could have had the lugs impacted on, or they could have just been worn out, it was a 14 year old truck...
