I ordered the Weapon R Intake for my 99 I4 Cougar with cold air box. It looks and sounds great, and i notice little bit of increased preformance. But my gas mileage has dropped significantly. I was getting about 22 mpg or so city, now after installing the intake i get about 18 mpg city. Nothing else has changed and i'm driving the same way. Is this typical? Or could i have done something wrong? I thought that gas mileage was suppossed to get better after installing this intake. Any help would be great. Thanks

well are you gunning it every time you take off so you can hear the sound? that is prolly what is contributing to your gas mileage

I Did at first but then i noticed how bad the gas mileage was so now i barely touch the gas at all and its still bad

make sure you have your little sensor plugged in the AIT. I thinkyou have one.

Could be heat soak also ... most "cold air boxes" tend to suck... but not in a good way.

i have my AIT plugged in correctly. Could heat soak really be that bad? Could the Cold Air Box be making heat soak worse? What could i Do to make this better?

did u unplug your battery for a few mins to reset the computer? you need to so the car will "see" the changes and adjust

yeah i did, but i can try doing it again. I may not have done it long enough, plus i only unplugged the negative side. I thought that it was a myth that you had to do that though.

you only need to pull the negative side. Without a ground electicity wont flow, so no power. Let it sit for like 20-30 min.
Unhooking the battery works great for fixing many little problems. For example evey few months (like 1 time a year) i get a CEL, i just unhook the battery for like and hr or so, then it clears, and doesnt come back for like a year. What ever is causeing it isnt a big deal cause it takes that long to come back.
I got a CEL everytime I changed my intake (I have had a few different ones) and I dont reset the computer. The car goes "crap where is all this air coming from... bing CEL". You reset it and goes away.
Aslong as everything is hooked up right and you reset the comp and u drive it the same as always your mgp should either stay the same or go slightly up depending. Deffinity should not have a big drop unless your "playing" with your new intake.
If it still keeps being low, try driving around without the cold box. Only a handful of people have them as is. I have just a SRI and never had a "heatsoak" problem.

Got the same intake and cold air box...I took the cold air box off cuz it tends to suck in too much hot air with the box on...
