So, I know the stock ECU's have different computer codes amongst them . . . my question is this - if you purchase a used SCT chip, does the code that is currently on the chip have to match the code that is on your ECU, or if you were to say, clear the program off and dynotune the car, would you be able to use any Cougar-compatible SCT chip as long as you reflashed it with the new program?

In other words, could a chip off a '99 MTX work on an '02 ATX? Both are V-6's.

It depends on the chip. Some chips couldn't be rewritten or are out of date. The newer red SCT chips "I think" can be retuned to any ECU code as long as SCT supports that code. I don't think you can do this with the older blue superchips chip or if you can I don't think your local tuner will have the ability to do it. Most should have the ability to tune the newer red SCT chips.
