View Full Version : BBQ Meet
It's been talked about a few times, so let's get it going (if the interest is there)...
Do we want to try to have another barbeque meet?
If so, where should we have it? (park, member's house)
What are you willing to bring? (beverages (non-alcoholic), burgers, hotdogs, salads, munchies, plates, cups, utensils, etc.)
What "activities" should occur? (car wash, mods, socializing, cruise, etc.)
When should we have it?
Let's get some discussion on this so that we can plan it or abandon it if it's not viable!

I really wish I was close to you guys :(
You are not that far. And if you want it closer, give us an idea.

As I mentioned in the other thread, we can have it at my place again if people want. :) We can do washing, mods, socializing, etc. there.
I've heard Sandy Point State Park (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/sandypoint.html) is nice. There are other state parks, too, like Patapsco Valley (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/patapscovalley.html), though I don't know anything about them.

The Avalon area in patapsco state park might be a good place. They have a pavillion there, I think one of those big charcoal grills, all that fun stuff. I don't know how to reserve the pavillion though . . .

Patapsco Valley seems like a fun place. Sandy State Park is ok... I have my company picnic there every year & it doesnt have as much stuff to do as the other place

I have a family reunion the weekend of the 25th, and I'm planning to go camping the entire weekend, so that's no good for me. Other than that, my schedule is clear.
frinesi2 - are you familiar with Patapsco Valley? (Or is anyone else?) Perhaps someone that's familiar with it can suggest a location.

Honestly I have no idea when I can or can't make it, but when the date is set I'll do my best to make it. Patapsco state park is my neck of the woods (no pun intended, okay, maybe just a little one), so, imo, the avalon area would be a good place to meet if the meet was in the park. They have two pavillions you can reserve (unfortunately, I don't know how, but I'm trying to find out), and they are right next to a decent sized parking lot where, of course, the cougars can go.
Here are directions:
Avalon/Glen Artney/Orange Grove/Lost Lake Areas - From the Beltway (I-695) Take Rt. 1 (Exit 12-A) toward Elkridge. Follow Rt. 1 South about 3 miles to South St. Turn right. Park entrance is on the left.
Also it will cost $2 per car to enter the state park.
Another place, if the park idea is pursued, would be Centenial Lake. They have a group area with a large pavillion and a grass lot which I am told will fit a decent number of cougars. I don't know too many details on this location, but if people are interested I can find more.

You're just looking for more time to get your car done. ;)
Seriously that might be a good idea. :)
Sunday's are fine for me, and anytime in September is pretty much open as of now. :)
I guess I'll start the poll. ;)
I started the dates with the 19th, 'cause the 18th is short notice (and I can't be there) and I needed to cram it into 10 boxes. This only goes through September 9, if we need to, we can eliminate dates or something and try again if these don't work.
Umm, votes are public (as usual) so that I can weed out any votes that won't be attending... Votes can be for multiple dates, pick ALL that work for you.
I think that's it. :) VOTE!

VOTE!
*ahem* It looks like you haven't voted yet.
'Cause other than those dates I mentioned, I'm pretty much available. ;)
And I usually wait until everybody else starts to vote.
Feel better now??? :)

Its cus we're all so shocked that you actually suggested we drive 2.5 hours to the eastern shore, instead of driving 2.5 minutes to somewhere near by.
:cover:
PS: I voted. Basically, September I can see myself making it. I will be in college then, but I am living at home and UMBC is like 2.5 minutes away.
Maybe we should meet at UMBC . . .

Or you could drive back since you'll miss us all so much...
So far, Labor Day weekend is looking like the winner. The poll closes Tuesday night and we'll go from there.

Cougar fixed. Well, kinda, still need to get the rear wheels checked for straightness and balanced (have a vibe coming from there), but the thrumming is gone along with the bad wheel bearing. :)

I THOUGHT IT WAS A BBQ MEET??
Poll closes tonight. If anybody has an opinion about which day is better, and has not voted, you have just over 3 hours to do it.
Right now, Labor Day weekend is winning with 5 votes for each day, Saturday and Sunday.
Also feel free to post which of those 2 you prefer.

I'm trying to figure out how to rent one of the pavillions at patapsco valley state park, avalon area. I've been there many times before and its a nice place. As soon as I can get more details and pricing, I will let ya'all know.
Saturday would probably be a better day for me.

Side note: It's some kind of miracle - only people likely to come to the meet voted in this poll!
I put "Maryland Meet" in Caps.
And I made sure to put an option for "I just want to see the results."
Still pretty amazing though!
So yeah, Saturday works for me. :)

I will bring chips and such and plates/napkins/utensils.

I thought we were having it at Patapsco Valley State Park, but looking back I see you're right, we never actually did decide on that. :)
Amanda is free that day, so she should be able to join us.
Patapsco is fine with me if we get a definite plan. That's a big park, I don't want anybody wandering around lost.
RJ, I'm glad she'll be coming out. :)

Huh wha?
Sorry my last few weeks have been crazy.
I'm up for the meet, but I don't have the time for the leg-work right now.
I'm house hunting, getting settled in a new job, house-sitting, studying for finals, dealing with some family issues, and now my Uncle has had a heart attack and is having heart surgery. :(
So, if someone could do some of the planning work for me, it would be much appreciated.

08-15-2007, 10:37 PM
Sorry to hear that, Tigg. Good luck!
frinesi2, any luck with the park? If we can't get a pavilion (which is fine, we don't really need one), then do you have a recommendation for what area of the park we should meet in?
:poke: WAKE UP EVERYBODY!
Okay, so who's planning on being there for this?
Let's start with that and then work on what we need...
I will be there.

*cough*
Good timing RJ, I was just headed in here to make a last official post for this one.
Since nobody has come up with any suggestions or information, we're going to drop the BBQ part. There's no point in 4 or 5 of us trying to get everything we need together by Saturday to have tons of leftovers and aggravation.
SO... We can either postpone this, or change it to something other than a BBQ. I'd certainly like to see everyone, so I'm up for doing something else, but that will depend on what you guys want to do. So, I'm going to lock this one up to avoid any confusion and start a new thread with ideas for what (if anything) we want to do on Saturday.
:lock:
