View Full Version : I got killed 'badly' tonight =(

Well, tonight I found out a few things about myself and my car. 1, for myself, I need to learn to shift quicker and harder, which I pretty much got down pat but needs practice. As for my car, I think my car is being bogged by something.

First race was against I think some older gen Eagle Talon, dunno if it was TSi or not but it pulled me when we hit second. I almost had him the second race but he started pulling cars on me.

Second race was against a 2007 G5 (I4, 5spd). It was alot closer but he still beat me in the end, probably by 2 or 3 cars.

Now I know our Cougars aren't slow but why the hell is mine so slow? I have a 99 MTX, SRI & just a straight through exhaust (Glasspack Muffler). Now I have smelt rotten eggs a couple of times but it comes and goes, so maybe my cat is ready to go? I know this really sucks down on the power, or so I've heard. Only other mods I've done are IMRC relocation. Car has 88k on it, no tune ups except for oil and other basic needs. Probably time for plugs, wires, fuel filter etc?

You should of beat the G5. A well kept cougar MTX with I/E should be good for mid 15's all day with a good driver.

I think your in need of a tune up...

Yeah...like I said, it's at 88k with only oil changes and whatever fluids, never had a tune up and it's almost about 100k miles.

well for the record, im guessing it wasnt a TSi, if it was, he would have stomped on your ass pretty damn good haha...even if it was a stock turbo.

do a tune up, and let us know what happens...

ziggo0
07-20-2007, 04:17 PM
Yeah, in addition to the tune up I'm wanting to eliminate the possibility of the cat being shot so, how much would be reasonable for a high flow cat?

Oh man...I think I just figured out why I got my ass kicked so bad. I popped my hood and was letting the engine warm up. I relocated my IMRC the other day so I was watching it move when I noticed...it's the part that pulls is not even connected the secondaries in the front, WTF?

No seriously lol, I think something is broke with the linkage to the secondaries! I can physically turn the secondaries with my hand...they open and close...but the part thats suppose to stick in there wont stay in? It's like it's broke or something, lemme go grab a picture lol. That G5 is going down tonight >>

big image, as you can see its connected now but its narrowly just sitting there wtf, it falls out!

Reving the engine with it connected caused a couple of things. It was louder, revved harder I guess and it falls out after one vrroooom lol.

K...just found out what the problem was. Apparently it's a plastic/rubber grommet that over time goes bad and falls out. 15 bux for a tiny piece of plastic that solves world hunger. Gonna go try it out now...

Edit: Oh my god...I've never felt my car pull that hard in my life...it's been like this ever since I got it a few months ago and now...its like a whole new car...no wonder i lost...

EternalOne

The turbo came out of the shop Laser, used to run high low 9's w/o a problem -- til it sheared an axle and hit the wall. Builds real power about 3.5k all the way through the powerband. I actually find I like it building power this late, as it means I can still use 1st fully, and some of 2nd before power kicks in and I have to white knuckle the rest of the way.

lol, try around 4500rpms in 3rd gear and I'm sure he has an 8k rev limit set on it.....or will have;)

That's a badass turbo John....is it the 4088(dual ball bearing)?? If not, I'd trade up for one that is. My 2871R hits full boost around 3700rpms:biggrin:

Yeah, its the 4088R -- should be one helluva fun ride. =)

I'm really ready to see what the Talon can really do, its got all new race axles and dual Quaife LSD's now. Also did the new clutch and flywheel while we were in there, so I'm getting closer to the turbo install...

lol, I wish......I have some of the greatest friends evAr......and a good set of knee pads, LMAO!!! I don't care who you are, that's funny right there:rofl:

Anyways, this turbo was 2 grand new and had another grand worth of work done to it. I got it for 800 bucks!! The same friend is letting me borrow the top mount until I can get him some cash. He's letting me have if for only 300...It was around 900 new.

Another friend tuned my car for FREE and gave me a 350 dollar EGT gauge. He's also letting me send his stock wrx injectors off to be flow tested. We're gonna cap those and they'll be sitting at 720cc's after the flow testing.

Mostly I buy parts used....Total for car, parts, and beer:rofl:.....I'm around 19,500 and the car was 18 of it.

Haha nice man! That TMIC is HOT!

I am removing my side-mount this weekend along with the stock oil cooler which is leaking -- replacing with a SBR FMIC and Greddy 13 row oil cooler.

I got real lucky with the turbo, myself. I picked up the GT40, a Stage 4 Shep Racing tranny, two roll cages, full suspension setup, a bunch of misc parts, and a 91 Eclipse GSX all for $2000 -- pretty much cleaned out the shop of spare DSM goodies... :P Sooner or later it'd be nice to be able to drive one of my 4 spare cars... The Yukon doesn't cut it for a daily drivery any more... (Besides, living in Detroit and having a large stereo and 22's catches me some strange looks, lol...)

Sooo... What's next for your car Micah?

dude, 2g's?? Score!!

Next.....I heard about an awesome deal on a built 2.5 block($900). So either that or forged internals for my 2.0. Probably an alcohol injection kit, this oil cooler kit (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1316223), Perrin anti lift kit, struts, and sway bars. Eventually an STi 6spd....

I think after that she'll be sittin pretty:)

Where the hell did you find a the eclipse for so cheap?

I thought I got my 95 GS-T with 670k on the clock cheap for 2k but it needed...turbo, header, few interior pieces, fmic, maf, intake...eventually a motor. I'm about 5 grand deep including the car...If you want to include all the hours of labor I put in instead of working cuz I'm a poon mechanic...way more then the car will ever be worth. August will be a year owning the car and I only had it on the road for one week...210 miles before my X-friend sent a rod through my block.

EternalOne
08-03-2007, 05:05 PM
Heh, I only paid $400 for my Talon from the junkyard, $1000 in repairs and she was running great. ;)

The Eclipse I picked up because it was already being built as a full dragcar -- when I got it there was no motor, tranny, or interior -- it has a fully seam welded frame and the rollcage was installed. We've purchased the motor and rebuilt the tranny I got in the deal with it, and the car is now fully vinyl bodywrapped (no paint on that car). It'll be a trailer queen but should be a fun car down the 1/4...

210 miles before my X-friend sent a rod through my block.

Ow... That hurts...

When I first got my Talon on the road it was having major problems, but that was caused by a rush job trying to get it running perfect. Ended up stranding myself on the road 3 times, 2 of those it dumped all of the oil all over. (Shut it down before anything happened, luckly.) So far I've been lucky with no major issues, everything has been simple crap from it sitting in the junkyard for so long...

lol, that happened when we put my turbo on. When we started the car, the new oil return line buckled and shot oil all over the pass side of the engine bay:disgust::rofl: Had to climb under the car to try and fix the line....got oil in my eye and mouth. Mobil 1 synthetic doesn't make mouths happy:ugh:

EternalOne

Hahahah, that sucks man. The worst oil disaster I've ever had beats that tho. ;)

I had hydraulics in my Sportage, a full 4-pump dancer setup with custom steel-braided lines. A fitting failed during a show and sprayed oil all over the inside of the truck, it was a high pressure line, and a small failure so the spray was a nice fine mist that literally covered every square inch of the interior (which, btw, was green and white velvet and cost me $8k to install). We had to rip the entire interior out and replace it, and then I proceeded to replace the hydros with bags.

Here's what it used to look like:

Heh, the Kia was also the origin of my screenname. ;)
