just for comparison, i just got a quote to have a scuff on my rear bumper and scuffs on my front fenders repainted (both minor paint damage - no metal damage) and the price was $1750!!! yeah, three small areas and nearly 3x as much as your friends maaco complete car price.

I'm from Canada and I've heard only bad thing about Maaco aswell. Guess they have a bad rep all over the map!

Go the Maaco with your parts in hand and ask. This board has people from everywhere and each region seems to vary in prices of installs. Plus certain places wont charge as much for certain work. You have to ask.

i will tell you, i run a body shop and it cost anywhere from $250-$350 to paint a panel. i'm from southern illinois so i don't know what other regions will charge. it would cost a custome about $3000 just to scuff and paint a cougar thats every panel. i actually just redid a paint job for a customer that took it to maaco and the paint was just peeling. so yea, you get what you pay for.

y does it suck so bad?

Since no one wants to take the time to actually answer you, I will.

They don't prep.

Fin.

End thread.

It's not worth it!!! The cougar I bought had been reshot at Maaco. Thier prep work sucks. I have paint on parts of the rubber seals around the windshield, and rear glass. The also painted the water sipes over the doors.

I spoke to a guy there just to see what they would tell me about my hazing on the CF hood and to get the new nose and fenders painted. The said they won't guarantee the fenders and nose from peeling as they can't account for the previous prep work on them and that they wouldn't touch the hood even though Kaminari said all that had to be done was wet sand and re-clear it.

I don't see myself letting them touch this car if they can't guarantee thier work.

What was really funny to me is when the estimator was looking at he noticed the previous bad tape job and aksed who painted the car before. The tone in his voice denoted he thought it was piss poor work. When I told him it was his company on the other side of the state line that did it he got quiet.

Like someone said, your not going to have a good paint job without the prep work. Now if you do your own prep work and tape it off and drop it off at maaco, you might get a decent result...

all i want done is a body kit, not the whole car

That may work and it may not. Depending on the elements your car has been exposed to your newly painted body kit may not quite match your car. Perhaps you may be better off putting the kit on and when it is painted have them blend in the paint rather then paint the whole thing. See what the difference would be in price and if the money saved is worth not having the whole car shot.

dont takew anything there i took my car there just for new clear coat and it is crappy, go somewhere where they actaully care about cars and not just getting them done fast, and the paint will last longer done by a shop compared to maaco one winter my paint is sh*t

If you prep the body kit it might be okay taking it to maaco. As far as it matching, make sure they use the paint code from your door jamb to match it. What kit is it?

BTW: my car is in the shop right now. $4K to do the whole car including the Roush kit and some body work.

For $4K are they stripping the paint to the metal? or do they just sand and prime, then paint? How many coats of paint would you get for that price?
Im looking to get my whole car painted once I put on my body kit so Im interested in prices and whats included. I have ruled out Maaco!! lol

at my job i just fully repainted a 1992 ranger, i guess the guy only payed $2500 thats actually really cheap for what he got, but we did everything as if it was a $4000 paint job, its because hes friends with the boss heh, but we completely took everything off of it so we didnt have to tape around door handles or moldings and just sanded it down under the clear so that paint would stick good, and fixed the dings and chips, every panel had atleast one dent or chip, polyestered the dents, sanded every part of the truck, taped off the windows , Primed the deep sand scratches, Sealed it all, 3 coats of color, 2 coats of clear and rebuild, So you know that if u are paying $600 for a full paintjob, they arent even doing Half of that work, Maaco uses shotty paints and tints and binders anyways, the cheap stuff. I dont think they paint the jams either, my friend got his done there, the car is red but the jams are still green, lolololol, dont do maaco u will regret it down the road, save up money and bring it to a real body shop
